Bø, Midt-Telemark
Bø or Bø i Telemark is the administrative centre of Midt-Telemark Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located along the river Bøelva, about half-way between the large lakes Seljordsvatnet and Norsjø. It is located about south of the village of Folkestad, about northwest of the village of Gvarv, and about north of the village of Bjervamoen. The small village of Nordbøåsane lies about east of the village. The village has a population (2022) of 3,609 and a population density of . The Norwegian National Road 36 and the Sørlandsbanen railway line both pass through the village. Norsjø
Norsjø is a lake in the municipalities of Skien, Nome, and Midt-Telemark in Telemark county, Norway. The lake sits at an elevation of above sea level. Norsjø is part of the Telemark Canal. Most rivers in Telemark flow into the lake Norsjø including the rivers Bøelva, Sauarelva, and Eidselva. The lake then drains through the Farelva river which flows into the Skien river. Old Bø Church
Old Bø Church () is a former parish church of the Church of Norway in Midt-Telemark Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Bø. It used to be the main church for the Bø parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1179 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 150 people. This church was closed in 1875 when the new Bø Church was opened. This church is now preserved as a museum. History The first church in Bø was likely a small wooden post church that was built during the 12th century. This church stood on the same site as the present building. The remains of this church were found during some archaeological excavations during the 1980s. That building was torn down during the mid-1100s so that a stone church could be built to replace it. History The Old Bø Church was used for centuries by the people of Bø. By the mid-1800s, the old church was in seriously bad shape. There were structural problems that were threatening the building, in addition to the fact that the old church was much smaller than it should be for the size of the parish. It was then decided to build a new church to replace the old building. Gvarv
Gvarv is a village in the municipality Midt-Telemark in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located along the river Gvarvelva, just from where the river empties into the large lake Norsjø. The village of Bø lies about to the northwest, the village of Akkerhaugen lies about to the east, and the village of Ulefoss lies about to the southeast. The village has a population (2022) of 1,109 and a population density of . Gvarv is a farming area, noted for its apples, sweet cherries, and sour cherries (as is the whole Sauherad area). It is also notable for growing grapes and producing wine (which is unusual in Norway). Gvarv also hosts the apple festival Eplefest and used to host the music festival Kartfestivalen.
