Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II (born September 8, 2002) is an American football defensive tackle. He played college football at Texas, being named the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2023. Early life and high school Murphy II attended DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. As a senior, he had 79 tackles and 14 sacks. He originally committed to play college football at Baylor University before changing to the University of Texas at Austin. College career As a true freshman at Texas in 2021, Murphy II played in all 12 games with one start and had 15 tackles and two sacks. As a sophomore he started one of 13 games and recorded 26 tackles and one sack. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach. T'Vondre Sweat (born July 11, 2001) is an American football defensive tackle. He played college football at Texas, winning the Outland Trophy and receiving unanimous All-American honors in 2023. He is the brother of Philadelphia Eagles player Josh Sweat. Early life and high school Sweat was born on July 11, 2001. Outland Trophy
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the best college football interior lineman in the United States as adjudged by the Football Writers Association of America. It is named after John H. Outland. One of only a few players ever to be named an All-American at two positions, Outland garnered consensus All-America honors in 1898 as a tackle and consensus honors as a halfback in 1899. Outland had always contended that football tackles and guards deserved greater recognition and conceived the Outland Trophy as a means of providing this recognition.
