Byram, North Yorkshire
Byram is a village in the Selby District in North Yorkshire, England. It lies east of Castleford, across the River Aire in West Yorkshire. Byram is the principal settlement in the civil parish of Byram cum Sutton. The toponym is from the Old English ''bȳrum'', the dative plural of ''bȳre'', so means "at the byres or cowsheds". Byram was historically a hamlet, part of the Township (England), township of Byram cum Poole in the ancient parish of Brotherton in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Byram cum Poole became a separate civil parish in 1866, but in 1891 was merged with the civil parish of Sutton, Selby, Sutton to form the civil parish of Byram cum Sutton. Byram grew rapidly in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1974 it was transferred to the new county of North Yorkshire. Byram Hall was a large country house east of the village, in Byram Park. Byram is a neighborhood/section and census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Greenwich in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. It had a population of 4,146 at the 2010 census, and a census-estimated population of 4,216 in 2018. Byram () is a city in Hinds County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 11,489 as of the 2010 census, up from 7,386 at the 2000 census, at which time it was an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP); in 2020, its population was 12,666. It is part of the Jackson metropolitan statistical area. It was incorporated for a second time in its history on June 16, 2009. Geography Byram is bordered to the north by the city of Jackson, the state capital, and to the south by Terry. Interstate 55 passes through the east side of Byram, with access from Exits 81 and 85. Byram is an unincorporated community within Kingwood Township, New Jersey, Kingwood Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, Hunterdon County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. In 1855 a bridge was built across the Delaware River north of Byram to connect with Point Pleasant, Pennsylvania. The Battle of Byram's Ford (also known as the Battle of Big Blue River and the Battle of the Blue) was fought on October 22 and 23, 1864, in Missouri during Price's Raid, a campaign of the American Civil War.
