''Byl jednou jeden dům'' (''Once There Was a House'') is a television series first broadcast 1975. It takes place in a house located in fictional Bagounova Street. Context The series covers the period from 1936 to 1945, i.e. the period before, during and after the World War II. The series was popular thanks to the constellation of well-known actors, lively dialogues, intertwined stories and fates, but (in the context of Normalization (Czechoslovakia), normalization) also less ideological burden than was usual at the time. It affects feelings and patriotism, because significant moments such as the Prague uprising or repression during Reinhard Heydrich's tenure and after his assassination also appear in the series. František Filip
František Filip (26 December 1930 – 9 January 2021) was a Czech film and television director. Biography During his studies at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the 1950s, he filmed his first documentary film. After graduation, he joined Czechoslovak Television in 1954, where he remained until his retirement. However; even after retirement he still continued to work in television. During the span of his career, he directed about 600 film and television programs of various genres for viewers of all ages. In 2017, he was awarded the Thalia Award. Death Filip died from COVID-19 in Prague on 9 January 2021, at the age of 90, during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Czech Republic. Eva Hudečková (born 3 December 1949 in Prague) is Czech actress, playwright and writer. She studied dramatic art at the Drama Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She played many characters in the theatre and films and has won several awards. Since 1986 she has devoted herself to literature, she has written several film subjects, scripts and stories. Her film ''O ztracené lásce'' was screened by Czech television. Czech radio produced dramatisation of her book entitled ''Bratříček Golem'' (Little Brother Golem). Josef Somr (14 April 1934 – 16 October 2022) was a Czech actor. He was noted for starring in the Oscar-winning 1966 film ''Closely Watched Trains'', as well as in '' The Joke''. Early life Somr was born in Vracov, Czechoslovakia, on 14 April 1934. He studied at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, graduating in 1956. Career Somr started his acting career at various regional theatres, before becoming a part of The Drama Club in Prague. There, he received roles in productions directed by Ladislav Smocek, Jan Kačer, and Jiří Menzel. He began acting in films starting in the mid-1960s, making his film debut in ''Accused'' (1964). His following role saw him play the libidinous train dispatcher Hubička in ''Closely Watched Trains'' by Menzel.
