Buzz Guy
Melwood Norman "Buzz" Guy, Jr. (March 20, 1936 – November 25, 2010) was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. He also was a member of the Denver Broncos and Houston Oilers in the American Football League (AFL). He played college football at Duke University. Early years Guy hails from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, where he played for the Lincoln High School Wolverines. Following graduation in 1954, he attended Duke University, where he played football. According to his obituary, he was known as Buster in high school, a more fitting name for a star athlete than "Melwood from Ellwood". Later Buster was shortened to Buzz because Duke athletics eschewed multisyllabic monikers in the 1950s. He was an offensive lineman that alternated between guard and tackle. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. Guards are automatically considered ineligible receivers, so they cannot intentionally touch a forward pass, unless it is to recover a fumble or is first touched by a defender or eligible receiver. In professional sports, a free agent is a player who is eligible to sign with other clubs or franchises; i.e., not under contract to any specific team. Defensive End
Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. History Early formations, with six- and seven-man line defense, seven-man lines, used the end as a containment player, whose job was first to prevent an "end run" around his position, then secondarily to force plays inside. When most teams adopted a five-man line, two different styles of end play developed: "crashing" ends, who rushed into the backfield to disrupt plays, and "stand-up" or "waiting" ends, who played the more traditional containment style. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns are a professional American football team based in Cleveland. Named after original coach and co-founder Paul Brown, they compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) North division. The 1958 National Football League draft had its first four rounds held on December 2, 1957, and its final twenty-six rounds on January 28, 1958. Both sessions were held at the Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia. This was the 12th and final year in which the first overall pick was a "lottery bonus". The National Football League Draft, also called the NFL Draft or (officially) the Player Selection Meeting, is an annual event which serves as the league's most common source of player recruitment. Each team is given a position in the drafting order in reverse order relative to its record in the previous year, which means that the last place team is positioned first and the Super Bowl champion is last. From this position, the team can either select a player or trade its position to another team for other draft positions, a player or players, or any combination thereof. The round is complete when each team has either selected a player or traded its position in the draft. The first draft was held in 1936, and has been held every year since. James William Glassford (March 8, 1914 – September 19, 2016) was an American football player and coach, who served as Head coach (American football), head coach for the New Hampshire Wildcats football, New Hampshire Wildcats and Nebraska Cornhuskers football, Nebraska Cornhuskers. Cornhuskers
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (often abbreviated to Huskers) are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
