Dinah Shore (born Frances Rose Shore; February 29, 1916 – February 24, 1994) was an American singer, actress, and television personality, and the top-charting female vocalist of the 1940s. She rose to prominence as a recording artist during the Big Band era. She achieved even greater success a decade later, in television, mainly as the host of a series of variety programs for the Chevrolet automobile company. After failing singing auditions for the bands of Benny Goodman, and both Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Shore struck out on her own. She became the first singer of her era to achieve huge solo success. The Dinning Sisters
The Dinning Sisters were an American sisters singing group, active from the late 1930s to 1955. They made a handful of film appearances and had several hit records at the height of their popularity in the late 1940s. The trio originally consisted of Ella Lucille "Lou" Dinning (September 29, 1920 – April 28, 2000), Eugenia Doy "Jean" Dinning (March 29, 1924 – February 22, 2011) and Virginia Moy "Ginger" Dinning (March 29, 1924 – October 14, 2013). Jean and Ginger were twins. Lou Dinning left the group in 1946 to be replaced by Jayne Bundesen. Beginning in 1949, another Dinning sister was added to the lineup, replacing Bundsen: Dolores May "Tootsie" Dinning (January 30, 1929 – June 17, 2015). This version of the Dinning Sisters lasted through about 1953, before Dolores left to continue her musical career as a session singer. Gerald Walcan Bright (10 August 1904 – 4 May 1974), better known as Geraldo, was an English bandleader. He adopted the name "Geraldo" in 1930, and became one of the most popular British dance band leaders of the 1930s with his "sweet music" and his "Gaucho Tango Orchestra". MGM Records was a record label founded by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio in 1946 for the purpose of releasing soundtrack recordings (later LP albums) of their musical films.
