Butterz is an independent record label based in London that specializes in grime music. It was founded by DJs and music producers Elijah and Skilliam. The label helped bring grime instrumentals to the forefront of the electronic music scene, and was ranked 10th in '' Fact's'' "The 10 Best Record Labels of 2011". History Butterz began as a blog in 2007, run by Elijah and Skilliam. The blog consisted of downloads, interviews and features with grime musicians. The label was formed in March 2010 and has since released grime music both digitally and on vinyl, from artists including Terror Danjah, Newham Generals, Royal-T, DJ Q, Flava D Swindle, Champion, P Money and Trim. In 2010 it was announced that the blog was ending so as to focus solely on the label. David Kelly has designed all of the label's artwork, which for a long time, only used two colours: black and yellow. Grime Music
Grime is a genre of electronic music that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of the earlier UK dance style UK garage, and draws influences from jungle, dancehall, and hip hop. The style is typified by rapid, syncopated breakbeats, generally around 140 beats per minute, and often features an aggressive or jagged electronic sound. Emceeing is a significant element of the style, and lyrics often revolve around gritty depictions of urban life. The style initially spread among pirate radio stations and underground scenes before achieving some mainstream recognition in the UK during the mid-2000s through artists such as Dizzee Rascal, Kano, Lethal Bizzle, and Wiley. Skepta
Chief Joseph Olaitan Adenuga Jr. (born 19 September 1982), known professionally as Skepta, is a British-Nigerian grime MC, rapper and record producer. Alongside his younger brother Jme, he briefly joined Roll Deep before they became founding members of Boy Better Know in 2005. With Boy Better Know, Skepta clashed with fellow MC Devilman for the video release ''Lord of the Mics 2'', in what is remembered as one of the biggest clashes in grime history. A white label record is a vinyl record with white labels attached. There are several variations each with a different purpose. Variations include test pressings, white label promos, and plain white labels. Kano (Rapper)
Kaine Brett Robinson (born 21 May 1985), better known as Kano, is a British rapper, songwriter and actor from East Ham, London. A significant contributor to grime music, he is widely considered one of the pioneers of grime music and culture, alongside artists such as Wiley and Dizzee Rascal. Liam McLean (born 30 January 1989), better known by his stage name Joker, is a British record producer who creates music in genres such as dubstep and grime and was known for creating the subgenre "purple sound".
