Brian Butterworth
Brian Lewis Butterworth FBA (born 3 January 1944) is emeritus professor of cognitive neuropsychology in the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London, England. His research has ranged from speech errors and pauses, short-term memory deficits, reading and the dyslexias both in alphabetic scripts and Chinese, and mathematics and dyscalculia. He has also pioneered educational neuroscience, notably in the study of learners with special educational needs (''Educational Neuroscience'', 2013). He read psychology and philosophy at Oxford University (1963-1966). George Butterworth (cartoonist)
George Goodwin Butterworth (1905–1988) worked as a British political, strip and sports cartoonist, and later a book illustrator. He often used the byline "GGB." During World War II his cartoon Maltese Cross in the Daily Dispatch gave groundswell to the island receiving the George Cross for heroism in April 1942. George Sainton Kaye Butterworth, MC (12 July 18855 August 1916) was an English composer who was best known for the orchestral idyll ''The Banks of Green Willow'' and his song settings of A. E. Housman's poems from '' A Shropshire Lad''. Early years Butterworth was born in Paddington, London. Soon after his birth, his family moved to York so that his father Sir Alexander Kaye Butterworth could take up an appointment as general manager of the North Eastern Railway, which was based there. Their home was at Riseholme, a house on Driffield Terrace, which later became part of the Mount School. Frank Butterworth
Frank Seiler Butterworth Sr. (September 21, 1870 – August 21, 1950) was an American football player and coach. Butterworth attended Yale University, where he was a fullback on Yale's football teams and a member of the Skull and Bones society. He was famously enucleated by Bert Waters during "The Bloodbath in Hampden Park". He was selected as an All-American in 1893 and 1894. Butterworth was also a track star and boxer at Yale. After his college career was over, Butterworth coached football at the University of California, Berkeley (1895–1896) and Yale (1897–1898). Edwin Butterworth (1 October 1812 – 19 April 1848) was an English journalist, topographer, antiquarian and writer on local history known particularly as a researcher for Edward Baines's History of Lancashire. Life and career Butterworth was the tenth and youngest child of the topographer James Butterworth, and was born at Pitses, near Oldham, in 1812. He followed in the footsteps of his father, whom he assisted in his later works, but was more given to statistical research.
