Buttermilk Creek is a tributary of the Muskrat River in the township of Whitewater Region, Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. Course Buttermilk Creek begins at Astrolabe Lake, formerly Green Lake and within the grounds of Logos Land water park, and travels before reaching its mouth at the Muskrat River near the community of Cobden. The Muskrat River empties into the Ottawa River at Pembroke. Economy Ontario Highway 17 parallels the lower ⅔ of the creek. Course Buttermilk Creek begins in a field north of Petrolia and travels through the northwest of the town before reaching its mouth at the Stonehouse Drain in Lorne C Henderson Conservation Area. The Stonehouse Drain flows via Bear Creek and the North Sydenham and Sydenham Rivers into Lake St. Clair. Buttermilk Falls State Park is a state park located southwest of Ithaca, New York, United States. Like Robert H. Treman State Park, a portion of the land that was to become the state park came from Robert and Laura Treman in 1924. History Buttermilk Falls was named for the frothy appearance of its churning waters. The naming of the cascade was described in 1866: The original of the park were presented as a gift to New York State by Robert and Laura Treman in 1924. It grew to its current size through various state acquisitions in the years that followed. Revolutionary War era soldier Joseph Plumb Martin mentioned a Buttermilk Falls in his diary; however, this refers to present day Highland Falls in the Hudson Valley and not in Ithaca, NY. Alpha is an unincorporated community in the town of Wood River, Burnett County, Wisconsin, United States. The community is located in the western part of the county, in northwestern Wisconsin. There are fewer than a dozen households in the community. History Alpha was settled primarily by Scandinavian immigrants from the Småland District of Sweden. The community was originally called Småland Prairie, a name rejected by the United States Postmaster General. The town's postmaster, also the local buttermaker, at a loss to come up with a better name, simply filled in the name of his ''Alpha'' brand cream separator. The postmaster's butter business eventually became the Burnett Dairy Co-op. Early on, it processed so much milk that the excess whey turned the stream a creamy color; thus the stream's name, Buttermilk Creek.
