Bushmead (postcode: 6055) is a suburb of Perth in the City of Swan located from Perth's central business district. History Bushmead is situated in Noongar traditional Aboriginal country. The Whadjuk (Wajuk) people are local custodians within Noongar country. The origin of the suburb name Bushmead is from mapping of the area in 1893, with title deeds showing Bushmead as part of the Woodbridge estate. The land had previously been owned by the Department of Defence after it was acquired in 1915. It was an important location on the Upper Darling Range Railway being south of the end of the Midland Railway yards complex and associated sidings and infrastructure, and the beginning of the climb on the Kalamunda Zig Zag. Michelle Hopkins Roberts (née Thomas; born 29 February 1960) is an Australian politician currently serving as Speaker of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. The Kalamunda Zig Zag was a zig zag rail line that was part of the Upper Darling Range Railway line in Western Australia, opening in July 1891 and closing in July 1949. The Upper Darling Range Railway (also known as the Upper Darling Range Branch) was a branch railway from Midland Junction railway station, Midland Junction, Western Australia, that rose up the southern side of the Helena Valley and on to the Darling Scarp via the Kalamunda Zig Zag. At the time of construction it was the only section of railway in Western Australia to have had a zig zag (railway), zig zag formation. Whadjuk
Whadjuk, alternatively Witjari, are Noongar (Aboriginal Australian) people of the Western Australian region of the Perth bioregion of the Swan Coastal Plain. Name The ethnonym appears to derive from ''whad'', the Whadjuk word for "no". Country The traditional tribal territory of the Whadjuk, in Norman Tindale's estimate, takes in some of land, from the Swan River, together with its eastern and northern tributaries. Maida Vale, Western Australia
Maida Vale is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. Kalamunda Road runs through the suburb. Its first European settler was William Henry Mead, who arrived in 1873, buildt a home in the Ridge Hill area and established the orchard Orangedale. It was named in 1910 after a property name of another settler, WH McCormack.
