''Burros'' is a 2021 American short drama film written and directed by Jefferson Stein and starring a cast of first-time actors from the Tohono O'odham Nation where it is set. Jefferson Stein (born February 10, 1989) is an American filmmaker. He is best known for his 2021 film '' Burros,'' executive produced by Eva Longoria, which premiered at the 20th Annual Tribeca Film Festival and won the Jury Award in the Live Action Short category at the 25th Annual New York International Children's Film Festival, where it qualified for the 95th Annual Academy Awards. Life and career Stein was born in Dallas, Texas. The oldest of four, he began making films as a child on VHS camcorders with his siblings, which evolved into making half-hour movies in his teenage years with his school friends. He graduated from Hillcrest High School and the Business Honors Program (BHP) at the University of Texas at Austin. Oʼodham (pronounced ) or Papago-Pima is a Uto-Aztecan language of southern Arizona and northern Sonora, Mexico, where the Tohono Oʼodham (formerly called the Papago) and Akimel Oʼodham (traditionally called Pima) reside. Tallgrass Film Festival
The Tallgrass Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Wichita, Kansas, specializing in independent films. It was founded in 2003 by Timothy Gruver. Gruver was raised in Wichita. He studied filmmaking at Brigham Young University. After college, Gruver worked for the animation wing of Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks studio. Gruver had worked for other film festivals and modeled Tallgrass after the Telluride Film Festival. Tallgrass is operated by the non-profit organization Tallgrass Film Association. There were 190 features and shorts screened in 2012. The festival takes place at several locations in downtown Wichita including the Orpheum Theatre. In 2012, over 11,000 people attended.
