Bertram Ray Burris (born August 22, 1950) is an American former pitcher in Major League Baseball (MLB), and the current rehabilitation pitching coordinator in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He played in MLB from 1973 through 1987 for seven different teams. Listed at and , he threw and batted right-handed. Early years Burris was born in Idabel, Oklahoma. The son of sharecroppers, Burris spent up to fifteen hours a day working the fields with his family through high school. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Recreational Leadership at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, in addition to playing basketball and baseball. Burris Laboratory School
Burris Laboratory School is a kindergarten through twelfth grade public laboratory school located on the west side of Muncie, Indiana. The school is a division of Ball State University and provides University pre-service teachers an opportunity for classroom observation and practice. The school also shares a campus with the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities. Currently Burris has implemented a system for middle school called impact. History The school was established in 1929 and is named after Benjamin J. Burris, the first president of what was then known as Ball Teachers College. Tony George Khnanisho, better known by his stage name Tony K, is an American rapper, record producer, and songwriter. Early life Tony K's family immigrated to Detroit, Michigan from Baghdad, Iraq in 1991 escaping what was then the Persian Gulf War. Very early on Tony K was surrounded by music. Samuel Burris
Samuel D. Burris (October 14, 1813 – December 3, 1863) was a member of the Underground Railroad. He had a family, who he moved to Philadelphia for safety and traveled into Maryland and Delaware to guide freedom seekers north along the Underground Railroad to Pennsylvania. He was caught helping Marie Mathews escape slavery and was acquitted. Soon after, he helped a young woman and two young men named Isaac and Alexander. He was arrested for enticing slaves to runaway in 1847. After 14 months in jail, he was found guilty. He was sentenced to ten months in jail and a $500 file, after which he was put on the auction block to be sold into slavery. Abolitionists found that he was about to be sold and Isaac Flint posed as a slave buyer and bought Burris; He then set him free. Burris still went into Delaware to guide freedom seekers, until a law was passed, naming him, that stated that continued assistance could result in 60 lashes of the whip in addition to being sold into slavery. ...

Roland Burris
Roland Wallace Burris (born August 3, 1937) is an American politician and attorney who is a former United States Senator from the state of Illinois and a member of the Democratic Party. In 1978, Burris was the first African American elected to statewide office in Illinois, when he was elected Illinois Comptroller. He served in that office until his election as Illinois Attorney General in 1990. Since then, he has unsuccessfully run for office four more times. Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich appointed Burris to replace President-elect Barack Obama as the junior senator from Illinois. The appointment was controversial, as the governor was already under investigation and there were rumors of him being paid for the appointment.
