Burraneer Bay
The Burraneer Bay is a bay on the lower estuarine Hacking River of Port Hacking in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Location and features With a catchment that drains many of the most southern suburbs of the Sutherland Shire, Burraneer Bay is located near where the Hacking River and Port Hacking estuary meet Gunnamatta Bay and empty into Bate Bay. The bay's catchment area is bound by Port Hacking to the south, Gunnamatta Bay sub-catchment to the east, Dolans Bay sub-catchment to the west and the Woolooware Bay sub-catchment to the north. The bay is surrounded by the suburbs of to the north and east, to the northwest and west, and and to the southwest, at the bay's junction with the estuary. Robert Dixon (explorer)
Robert Harald Lindsay Dixon (1800–1858) was an Australian surveyor and explorer, born in Cockfield, County Durham, England. Arrival in Tasmania Dixon arrived in Tasmania (then ''Van Diemen's Land'') in May 1821 with his brother George. For two years they worked for Edward Lord, tending his cattle station. In 1823 they were each granted 100 acres of land in the valley of the River Clyde and in 1824 each received an additional 200 acres. Sydney In July 1826 Dixon was bought out by his brother and went to Sydney, where he was appointed assistant surveyor in the Surveyor-General's Department under Lieutenant John Oxley. The Woolooware Bay is a bay on the lower estuarine Georges River in Southern Sydney, southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Gunnamatta Bay
The Gunnamatta Bay is a small bay in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Gunnamatta Bay is located off the Port Hacking estuary, in the Sutherland Shire. The foreshore is a natural boundary for the suburbs of Cronulla to the east, Woolooware to the north and Burraneer to the west. Transport Cronulla and National Park Ferry Cruises operate a ferry service from the wharf on Gunnamatta Bay, which provides a link between Cronulla and Bundeena across Port Hacking, on the edge of the Royal National Park. Parks Gunnamatta Park and Darook Park are located on its eastern foreshore. Tonkin Oval on the northern foreshore features a large cricket oval and is also used for baseball.
