Burr And Burton Academy
Burr and Burton Academy (BBA) is a private, non-profit, co-educational, day and boarding school in Manchester, Vermont, United States. It was established in 1829 through a bequest from local businessman Joseph Burr. In addition to serving local students and families, BBA offers a boarding program for international students. Admissions Burr and Burton Academy accepts all students from designated "sending towns," which vote annually to approve the school's tuition and pay the cost through education funding. Admission is also open on an annual basis to students from other, non-sending towns, as well as through BBA's International Program. Marcia Neugebauer (born September 27, 1932) is a prominent American geophysicist who made contributions to space physics. Neugebauer's research was among the first that yielded the first direct measurements of the solar wind and shed light on its physics and interaction with comets. Life Neugebauer was born in New York City. She received a B.A. in physics from Cornell University in 1954, followed by an M.S. in physics from the University of Illinois in Urbana in 1956. Harvey Dorfman
Harvey A. Dorfman (May 21, 1935 – February 28, 2011) was an American mental skills coach who worked in education and psychology as a teacher, counselor, coach, and consultant. Prior to becoming a mental skills coach, he lived in Manchester, Vermont, where he wrote for a local paper, taught English, and coached basketball at Burr and Burton Academy. He earned World Series rings by serving as a mental skills coach for the 1989 Oakland A's and the 1997 Florida Marlins. In 1999, Dorfman became a full-time consultant teaching the skills of sport psychology and staff development for the Scott Boras Corporation, an agency that represents professional baseball players. Lyman Coleman (June 14, 1796 – March 16, 1882) was an American scholar and author. Coleman, younger son of Dr. William and Achsah (Lyman) Coleman, was born in Middlefield, Mass., June 14, 1796. He graduated from Yale College in 1817. On leaving College he was for three years a teacher in the Latin Grammar School in Hartford, Conn., and then entered on a tutorship at Yale, which he retained for four and a half years, at the same time pursuing theological studies. Betsy Shaw (born December 20, 1965) is an American snowboarder who competed in the 1998 Nagano Olympics. Early life Shaw was born in Bennington, Vermont in 1965. She began skiing at the age of three with her father and siblings in Manchester, Vermont. She skied competitively, and was a member of the Burr and Burton ski team. In college, at age 20, she began snowboarding instead. She originally enrolled in the University of New Hampshire, but eventually transferred to the University of Vermont.
