Burnpur
Burnpur is a captive township of SAIL, the area covered by IISCO Steel Plant and its surroundings in Asansol of Paschim Bardhaman district, in the heart of the mining-industrial belt in the western periphery of the state of West Bengal, India. It is governed by Asansol Municipal Corporation. IISCO Steel Plant
IISCO Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited is an integrated steel plant located at Burnpur, a neighbourhood in Asansol city, in the Asansol subdivision of Paschim Bardhaman district, West Bengal, India. Overview IISCO Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India at Burnpur has a crude steel production capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year. Established in 1918, the Indian Iron & Steel Company, once the flag ship of the Martin Burn group, was amalgamated with SAIL in 2006 and renamed IISCO Steel Plant. Asansol
Asansol is a (Tier-II) metropolitan city in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the second largest and most populated city of West Bengal and the 33rd largest urban agglomeration in India. Asansol is the district headquarters of Paschim Bardhaman district. Paschim Bardhaman District
Paschim Bardhaman district is a predominantly urban mining-industrial district in West Bengal. The headquarter of the district is Asansol. It was formed on 7 April 2017 after bifurcation of the erstwhile Bardhaman district as the 23rd district of West Bengal. Etymology Some historians link the name of the district to the 24th and last Jain ''tirthankara'', Mahavira Vardhamana, who came to preach in the area. Alternatively, ''Bardhamana'' means a prosperous and growing area. It was a forward frontier zone in the progress of Aryanisation by the people in the Upper Gangetic valley. ''Paschim'' means west. Asansol Municipal Corporation
Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) is the civic body that governs Asansol in Asansol Sadar subdivision of Paschim Bardhaman district, West Bengal, India. History Union Committees were set up in Asansol, Raniganj, Katwa and Kalna, according to a notification issued on 29 October 1850. These Union Committees carried out the functions of municipalities. Assensole (now Asansol) Municipality was set up on 1 July 1885, according to a notification dated 23 April 1885. Initially, the municipality covered the Railway Colony, the English area, Budhdanga village, Bastin’s Bazar, Pucca Bazar, Munshi Bazar and Talpukur Chati areas.
