Burning Up Years
''Burning Up Years'' is the debut album by New Zealand blues-rock band The Human Instinct. It was released in 1969 and reissued on CD by Ascension Records in 2001. The album's title track is a cover of a 1969 song by Birmingham progressive rock trio Hard Meat, whose original version was the B-side of their cover of The Beatles' "Rain". "Blues News", "Fall Down", and "Ashes and Matches" were covers of unreleased demos recorded by New Zealand guitarist Doug Jerebine under his stage name, Jesse Harper. (Jerebine's original versions were belatedly released in the 1990s.) Other cover versions on the album were The Kinks' "You Really Got Me", Neil Young's "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" (listed as "I Think I'll Go Back Home" and miscredited in the liner notes to Jesse Harper), and Ashton, Gardner & Dyke's "Maiden Voyage", misattributed to Maurice Greer. The Human Instinct
The Human Instinct are a New Zealand blues rock band that has been active since the late 1960s. The band currently consists of Maurice Greer (lead vocals and stand-up drummer), Phil Pritchard (guitar), Joel Haines (guitar) and Tony Baird (bass). The band has had more than 25 members and has changed lineups several times since its formation under the leadership of Maurice Greer. They have released a total of seven albums and thirty singles. Their most recent album, ''Midnight Sun'', was released October 2010. The band is best known for their single "Black Sally" and their album '' Stoned Guitar'', which features the Jimi Hendrix-inspired guitar work of Billy Te Kahika, professionally known as Billy TK. Rain (The Beatles Song)
"Rain" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, released on 30 May 1966 as the B-side of their "Paperback Writer" single. Both songs were recorded during the sessions for ''Revolver'', although neither appear on that album. "Rain" was written by John Lennon and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership. He described its meaning as "about people moaning about the weather all the time". The song's recording contains a slowed-down rhythm track, a droning bass line and backwards vocals. Its release marked the first time that reversed sounds appeared in a pop song, although the Beatles used the same technique on the ''Revolver'' track "Tomorrow Never Knows", recorded days earlier. Ringo Starr considers "Rain" his best recorded drum performance. Three promotional films were created for the song, and they are considered among the early precursors of music videos. Wiremu Te Kahika, better known as Billy Te Kahika or Billy TK Senior (born 1949), is a New Zealand Māori musician, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Early work As a child, Billy TK lived in Bunnythorpe, a small town near Palmerston North, New Zealand. His surname of Te Kahika was abbreviated to 'TK' by Pākehā teachers. He was inspired to learn guitar by listening to construction workers working on nearby hydroelectric dams. He began playing guitar at an early age, and was surrounded by talented young musicians during his family's frequent visits to Rātana Pā, who helped fulfill his lust for improving his skills on his instrument. Sir Raymond Douglas Davies ( ; born 21 June 1944) is an English musician. He was the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, and main songwriter for the rock band the Kinks, which he led with his younger brother Dave on lead guitar and backing vocals. Ashton, Gardner and Dyke were a British rock trio, most popular in the early 1970s. They are best remembered for their song, "Resurrection Shuffle", a transatlantic Top 40 one-hit wonder in 1971. History Founding band member Tony Ashton first met the drummer Roy Dyke when playing with various Blackpool-based groups. Ashton was invited to join the Liverpool beat group The Remo Four as organist/vocalist, whilst Roy Dyke became the group's drummer, having joined them in 1963. Their best work came in 1966 when they released their album '' Smile!''. Before their breakup in 1968, they backed George Harrison on his album ''Wonderwall Music''. ''Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere'' is the second studio album by Canadian-American musician Neil Young, released in May 1969 on Reprise Records, catalogue number RS 6349. His first with longtime backing band Crazy Horse, it peaked at number 34 on the US ''Billboard'' 200 in August 1970 during a 98-week chart stay and has been certified platinum by the RIAA. The album is on the list of ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die''. You Really Got Me
"You Really Got Me" is a song written by Ray Davies for English rock band the Kinks. The song, originally performed in a more blues-oriented style, was inspired by artists such as Lead Belly and Big Bill Broonzy. Two versions of the song were recorded, with the second performance being used for the final single. Although it was rumoured that future Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page had performed the song's guitar solo, the myth has since been proven false. "You Really Got Me" was built around power chords ( perfect fifths and octaves) and heavily influenced later rock musicians, particularly in the genres of heavy metal and punk rock.
