Burnchurch is a civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish in Shillelogher (barony), Shillelogher, County Kilkenny, Ireland. It has an area of . Etymology The name of the parish derives from the townland of Burnchurch situated within the parish. The townland itself was originally named after the early Irish church founded there in the 6th century by Saint Dallán Forgaill. The original name of the church was ''Cill Dalláin'', meaning 'The Church of Dallán'. The Irish name was later corrupted into different spellings such as Kiltranyn, Kiltranen, Kyltranyn, Kiltranye and Kiltranyheyn. Kiltrani seemes to be the earliest surviving mention in 1225. After the Norman invasion of Ireland the parish was granted to the Fitzmaurice family. The barony of Shillelogher () is a Barony (Ireland), barony in the west of County Kilkenny, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The barony is in size. It is one of 12 baronies in County Kilkenny. There are 19 Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parishes in Shillelogher, made up of 109 townlands. The chief town is Bennettsbridge. Shillelogher lies at the centre of the county, with the baronies of Cranagh, Crannagh and Kilkenny (barony), Kilkenny to the north (whose chief towns are Freshford, County Kilkenny, Freshford and Kilkenny, and the barony of Gowran (barony), Gowran to the east (whose chief towns is Gowran). It is borders County Tipperary to the west. The N76 road (Ireland), N76 road bisects the barony. The river Nore flows through the barony. Danesfort Church is located in Shillelogher. Dallán Forgaill
Eochaid mac Colla ( 560 – 640), better known as Saint Dallán or Dallán Forgaill ( sga, Dallán Forchella; la, Dallanus Forcellius; Primitive Irish: ''Dallagnas Worgēllas''), was an early Christian Irish poet and saint known as the writer of the "''Amra Coluim Chille''" ("Elegy of Saint Columba") and, traditionally, "''Rop Tú Mo Baile''" ("Be Thou My Vision"). Personal history Saint Dallan's given name was Eochaidh ( sga, Eochaid); his father was Colla, a descendant of the legendary High King Colla Uais, and his mother was Forgall (Old Irish: ''Forchella''). His nickname, ''Dallán'' ("little blind one"), was earned after he lost his sight, reputedly as a result of studying intensively. He was born in Maigen (now Ballyconnell), at the eastern edge of the territory of the Masraige of Magh Slécht in the north-west of modern County Cavan. Civil Parishes In Ireland
Civil parishes () are units of territory in the island of Ireland that have their origins in old Gaelic territorial divisions. They were adopted by the Anglo-Norman Lordship of Ireland and then by the Elizabethan Kingdom of Ireland, and were formalised as land divisions at the time of the Plantations of Ireland. They no longer correspond to the boundaries of Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland parishes, which are generally larger. Their use as administrative units was gradually replaced by Poor_law_union#Ireland, Poor Law Divisions in the 19th century, although they were not formally abolished. Robert The Bruce
Robert I (11 July 1274 – 7 June 1329), popularly known as Robert the Bruce (Scottish Gaelic: ''Raibeart an Bruis''), was King of Scots from 1306 to his death in 1329.
