Henry Burmester Pulleine
Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Burmester Pulleine (12 December 1838 – 22 January 1879) was an administrator and commander in the British Army in the Cape Frontier and Anglo-Zulu Wars. He is most notable as a commander of British forces at the disastrous Battle of Isandlwana in January 1879. Substantively a major, he held the rank of brevet lieutenant colonel. Early life Pulleine was born in Yorkshire, the son of a vicar. His original commission into the British Army's 30th Regiment, was obtained without purchase in 1855 after his graduation from Sandhurst. He transferred to the brand new 2nd Battalion of the 24th in 1858 as a lieutenant and was promoted captain in 1861. In 1871 Pulleine bought a majority in the regiment's 1st Battalion, which was then sent to South Africa. Bernard Leo Burmester (February 1, 1945 – June 28, 2007) was an American actor. Burmester worked for director John Sayles several times, including in ''Passion Fish'' (1992) and '' Lone Star'' (1996), and also for directors such as John Schlesinger and Sidney Lumet, and as the Apostle Nathaniel in Martin Scorsese's '' The Last Temptation of Christ'' (1988). Ludwig Ernst Hans Burmester (5 May 1840 – 20 April 1927) was a German kinematician and geometer. His doctoral thesis (from German: ''About the elements of a theory of isophotes'') concerned lines on a surface defined by light direction. After a period as a teacher in Łódź he became professor of synthetic geometry at Dresden where his growing interest in kinematics culminated in his (''Textbook of Kinematics, First Volume, Planar Motion'') of 1888, developing the approach to the theory of linkages introduced by Franz Reuleaux, whereby a planar mechanism was understood as a collection of Euclidean planes in relative motion with one degree of freedom. Burmester's Theory
In kinematics, Burmester theory comprises geometric techniques for synthesis of linkages. It was introduced in the late 19th century by Ludwig Burmester (1840–1927). His approach was to compute the geometric constraints of the linkage directly from the inventor's desired movement for a floating link. From this point of view a four-bar linkage is a floating link that has two points constrained to lie on two circles. Burmester began with a set of locations, often called ''poses'', for the floating link, which are viewed as snapshots of the constrained movement of this floating link in the device that is to be designed. Mark Greville Burmester (born 24 January 1968) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played in three Test matches and eight One Day Internationals between 1992 and 1995. He played in Zimbabwe's inaugural Test, opening the bowling he became the first Zimbabwean to take a Test wicket. He was born at Durban in South Africa and is a past student of Eaglesvale High School in Harare. In February 2020, he was named in Zimbabwe's squad for the Over-50s Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Moss James Burmester (born 19 June 1981) is a New Zealand swimmer and diver. His specialist event is the 200m butterfly in which he holds the Commonwealth record of 1:54.35 set at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Burmester was born in Hastings, New Zealand. He grew up in Tauranga and received his education at Otumoetai College. His career highlights in the 200m butterfly are 4th at the 2008 Olympics and gold medallist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where he set a Commonwealth Games record of 1:56.64. Rudolf Burmester
Admiral Sir Rudolf Miles Burmester, (11 November 1875 – 27 December 1956) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, Africa Station. Naval career Burmester joined the Royal Navy in 1890. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1897, and in July 1902 posted as a gunnery officer to the protected cruiser HMS ''Highflyer'', flagship of the Commander-in-Chief, East Indies Station. He served in World War I and, having been promoted to captain in June 1914, commanded HMS ''Euryalus'' at Galipolli in 1915 for which he was mentioned in despatches. He served as Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet in the closing stages of the War. Carl Adolph Wilhelm “Willy” Burmester (16 March 186916 January 1933) was a German violinist. Life and career Willy Burmester was born in Hamburg and was a pupil of Joseph Joachim, with whom he studied for many years in Berlin. In 1885, however, he seceded from the Joachim school, and commenced to develop his technique with a view to achieving virtuosity rather than a classic purity of style. Burmester's rendering of the classics was said to be somewhat cold and devoid of feeling. Nonetheless, he was a well-developed artist: his taste was broad enough to include all schools of composition in his repertoire. His was at his best as an interpreter of the works of Paganini.
