Burke Garrett
William Burke Garrett III is a retired lieutenant general in the United States Army who last served as the deputy commander of United States European Command. Prior to that, he served as the deputy commanding general of United States Army Forces Command. Military career Garrett became the Deputy Commander of United States European Command in July 2014. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Commanding General and Chief of Staff for United States Army Forces Command in Fort Bragg. He was responsible for manning, equipping, and training 265,000 active component soldiers, and training and readiness oversight of 560,000 soldiers of the Army National Guard and the United States Army Reserve. A service star is a miniature bronze or silver five-pointed star inch (4.8 mm) in diameter that is authorized to be worn by members of the eight uniformed services of the United States on medals and ribbons to denote an additional award or service period. The service star may also be referred to as a campaign star or battle star depending on which award the star is authorized for and the manner in which the device is used for the award. The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (AFEM) is a military award of the United States Armed Forces, which was first created in 1961 by Executive Order of President John Kennedy. National Defense Service Medal
The National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) is a service award of the United States Armed Forces established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. It is awarded to every member of the US Armed Forces who has served during any one of four specified periods of armed conflict or national emergency from June 27, 1950 through the present. Meritorious Service Medal (United States)
__NOTOC__ The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is a military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States subsequent to January 16, 1969. The MSM was previously awarded as a decoration for achievement during peacetime, but effective September 11, 2001 this decoration may also be bestowed in lieu of the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in a designated combat theater.
