Burhan ( ar, برهان, ) is an Arabic male name, an epithet of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad. It is especially popular in Turkey, as it respects Turkish vowel harmony and the end syllable "-han" can be interpreted as the Turkish variant of "Khan". Burhan Wani
Burhan Wani (19 September 1994 – 8 July 2016) was a commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, an Islamist militant organization and insurgent group of the Kashmir conflict. He had become a popular figure amongst the local Kashmiri populace, having done so primarily through a strong social media presence, and was responsible for moulding the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir into a youth-oriented movement. Wani was a militant leader and had reportedly recruited numerous foot-soldiers through his personal efforts. As a popular militant, Wani was actively sought by Indian security forces, who had imposed a bounty for his capture. He was located in a remote village in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir and subsequently killed in a firefight with Indian forces on 8 July 2016. Burhan C. Doğançay (11 September 1929 – 16 January 2013) was a Turkish-American artist. Doğançay is best known for tracking walls in various cities across the world for half a century, integrating them in his artistic work. Biography Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Burhan Dogançay obtained his artistic training from his father Adil Doğançay, and Arif Kaptan, both well-known Turkish painters. In his youth, Dogançay played on the Gençlerbirliği football (soccer) team. In 1950, he received a law degree from the University of Ankara. Burhan Sönmez is a Kurdish prize-winning novelist from Turkey. He is the President of PEN International, elected at the Centennial Congress in 2021. Sönmez is the author of five novels. Ghazi Burhanuddin
Syed Ghāzī Burhān ad-Dīn ( ar, , bn, সৈয়দ গাজী বুরহানউদ্দীন) was a 14th-century Sufi Muslim figure living in Sylhet. He is celebrated in folklore as the first Muslim to live in the Sylhet region. Life It is said that there were around 13 Muslim families which settled in the mahalla of Tultikar with Burhanuddin being the chief of this minority group. The ancestors of these thirteen families entered the subcontinent after Muhammad bin Qasim's early 8th century conquest of Sindh and travelled to Chittagong via ship. Dr Burhan Al-Chalabi (FRSA) (born 1 March 1947) is a British-Iraqi writer and political commentator, and an expert on Middle Eastern relations. He is also the publisher of the London Magazine, Britain's oldest journal of the arts and literature (est 1732). Al-chalabi is the founder and former chairman of the British-Iraqi Foundation, and has been described as one of the most prominent Iraqis living in the UK. Burhan Kuzu (1 January 1955 – 1 November 2020) was a Turkish politician of the Justice and Development Party who served as a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for Istanbul in the 22nd to 24th and 26th parliaments. Burhan Ghalioun ( ar, برهان غليون, Burhān Ghalyūn; born 11 February 1945 in Homs, Syria) is a French-Syrian professor of sociology at the Université de Paris III Sorbonne University in Paris, and the first chairman of the Syrian opposition Transitional National Council (SNC). He was named chairman on 29 August 2011. His chairmanship was criticized for his perceived closeness to the Muslim Brotherhood, his early reluctance to arm opposition forces, and what opponents called the autocratic nature of his leadership. Burhan Ali
Burhan Ali was a self-declared Shah of Shirvan. He claimed to be son of Khalilullah II. Life His name was first recorded in 1544, when he invaded Shirvan with aid from Kaitag and was defeated by Alqas Mirza. He travelled to Istanbul after defeat and was aided by Suleyman the Magnificent. He rebelled again in Shirvan in 1547 but was defeated by the governor of Shirvan, future shah Ismail II. Taking advantage of the Ottoman–Safavid War, he easily invaded Shirvan a final time, captured Shamakhy in 1548, and declared himself Shirvanshah. Death In 1549, the Safavid army under Abdulla khan Ustajli was sent to Shirvan to end the rebellion. Burhan Ali managed to ambush them in Bugurd Valley but the sudden death of Burhan in 1550 because of a disease stopped future independence plans.
