Burgos, officially the Municipality of Burgos ( Surigaonon: Lungsod nan Burgos; tl, Bayan ng Burgos), is a 6th class municipality in the province of Surigao del Norte, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 4,185 people. It is the smallest municipality in the province, both in population and area. Burgos is one of the two northernmost towns of Siargao Island. The other is municipality of Santa Monica. Siargao Island
Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island in the Philippine Sea situated 196 kilometers southeast of Tacloban. It has a land area of approximately . The east coast is relatively straight with one deep inlet, Port Pilar. The coastline is marked by a succession of reefs, small points and white, sandy beaches. Surigaonon Language
Surigaonon is an Austronesian language spoken by Surigaonon people. As a regional Philippine language, it is spoken in the province of Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur, and some portions of Agusan del Norte, especially the towns near the Mainit Lake, Agusan del Sur and Davao Oriental. External relationships Surigaonon is a member of the Bisayan languages. It has been heavily influenced by Cebuano due to the influx of many Cebuanos in the region. However, most Cebuano speakers can hardly understand Surigaonon speakers, except for Cebuanos who have been living in the region for years.
