Burgh-le-Marsh Railway Station
Burgh-le-Marsh was a railway station on the East Lincolnshire Railway which served the town of Burgh le Marsh in Lincolnshire between 1848 and 1970. It originally opened as ''Burgh'', but was renamed in 1923. Withdrawal of goods facilities took place in 1966, followed by passenger services in 1970. The line through the station is now closed. History The station was opened on 3 September 1848 as ''Burgh'' after the settlement of Burgh le Marsh, and renamed following the railway grouping in 1923 to ''Burgh-le-Marsh'' to distinguish it from on the Carlisle and Silloth Bay Railway. It was constructed by Peto and Betts civil engineering contractors who, in January 1848, had taken over the contract to construct the section of the East Lincolnshire Railway between and from John Waring and Sons. Burgh Le Marsh
Burgh le Marsh is a town, and electoral ward in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England.OS Explorer map: Skegness, Alford & Spilsby: (1:25 000): Geography The town is built on a low hill surrounded by former marsh land, and the marsh influenced the town's name. Both the windmill and the church are visible from a distance. The A158 used to run through from west to east, but it was rerouted when a new bypass was opened in late 2007, reducing traffic congestion dramatically. A Roman road passes through the town on the way to Skegness, coming from the north-west via Tetford and Ulceby. The town is on the site of a former Roman fort. Saxon burial mound Near the parish St. Peter's and St. Paul's Church is a large earthen mound. Excavations in the 1930s found Saxon burial remains here. There is a dip in the top of the mound. Goods Shed
A goods shed is a railway building designed for storing goods before or after carriage in a train. A typical goods shed will have a track running through it to allow goods wagons to be unloaded under cover, although sometimes they were built alongside a track with possibly just a canopy over the door. There will also be a door to move goods to or from road wagons and vans, this sometimes is parallel to the rail track, or sometimes on the side opposite the rail track. Bratoft
Bratoft is a small hamlet in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately east from Spilsby, west from Burgh Le Marsh, and south from the A158 road. Bratoft Grade II listed Anglican church is dedicated to St Peter and St Paul. The church was completely restored in 1890. Firsby Railway Station
Firsby railway station was a station in Firsby, Lincolnshire. It served as a main line station and a terminus for two branch lines to Skegness and Spilsby respectively. The station was popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries for seaside connections to Skegness, but was recommended for closure in the Beeching Report and closed in 1970. A158 Road
The A158 road is a major route that heads from Lincoln in the west to Skegness on the east coast. The road is located entirely in the county of Lincolnshire and is single carriageway for almost its entirety. The road is approximately long. The road gets quite congested with holiday traffic during the summer.
