Burcu Çelik Özkan
Burcu Çelik Özkan (born 1 January 1986, Muş) is a former member of the Turkish parliament for the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). Education and professional career Burcu Çelik Özkan has a law degree from the Marmara University. After she worked as a lawyer and was involved in the Libertarian Jurists Platform. Political career Özkan was active in the local HDP branch of Beylikdüzü before being elected into parliament. Özkan was elected as an MP for Muş in the general elections in June 2015 and again in the snap elections in November 2015. During her term she was a defender of LGBT rights Prosecution Özkan was arrested in April 2017. She was condemned to 6 years imprisonment in a first trial for "committing crimes on behalf of an illegal organization without being a member", a sentence she appealed. Beylikdüzü
Beylikdüzü () is a municipality and district of Istanbul Province, Turkey. Its area is 39 km2, and its population is 415,290 (2024). It is on the European side of Istanbul, located north of the Sea of Marmara, south of Esenyurt, east of Büyükçekmece, and west of Avcılar. History It is assumed that Beylikdüzü was first settled by Greeks from Byzantion in the second century AD as a farming village. It later became a popular resort for residents of Constantinople in the Byzantine Empire, a status that continued after the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire. The region was referred to as "Garden" in the later Ottoman period, and following the foundation of the Turkish Republic was called "Kavaklı," after the large number of poplar trees, a name which was used until 2003. General elections were held in Turkey on 1 November 2015 to elect 550 members to the Grand National Assembly. They were the 25th general elections in the History of the Republic of Turkey and elected the country's 26th Parliament.
