''Buniyaad'' (literally ''Foundation'') is an Indian television soap opera directed by Ramesh Sippy and Jyoti. The series was written by Manohar Shyam Joshi and dealt with the Partition of India in 1947 and its aftermath. It first aired in 1986 on the Indian state television channel DD National. It was re-aired on DD Metro and Sahara One. Nowadays, it is re-aired on DD Retro. The story spans the life in India between 1916-1978. Plot Haveliram lives in Bicchowali Gali, Lahore in 1947 before Partition of India. Jyoti Sarup
Jyoti Sarup (born 20 August 1954 in New Delhi) is a National Award winning Indian film/serial director and producer, most known for directing the television series, ''Buniyaad'', and films like ''Chorni'' (1982) and '' Bub''(2001) . Biography An engineer from Govt Engineering College Ujjain, by education, he received a Diploma from NSD and FTII for Acting. He came to Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1978 to become an actor. Not belonging to a film background, he had to start from scratch. He started off as a Chief Assistant Director to Late Mr. Ramanand Sagar. Anita Kanwar is an Indian film and television actor who is best known for her role as ''Lajjo ji'' in the 1980s Doordarshan mega soap opera ''Buniyaad''. An alumnus of the National School of Drama (1978 batch), Kanwar has also worked in films such as Mahesh Bhatt's '' Janam'' (1985), Mira Nair's ''Salaam Bombay!'' (1988), for which she was nominated for a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and '' Thodasa Roomani Ho Jaayen''. Ramesh Sippy (born 23 January 1947) is an Indian film director and producer in Hindi cinema.
