Bungeni is a large sprawling rural settlement situated on top of one of the foothills and tail end of the Soutpansberg mountain in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo Province, South Africa. The Levubu agricultural plantation, where avocado, bananas, litch, Macadamia nuts, peaches and mangoes are grown in abundance is just 3km away north of Bungeni village. It lies 35 km east of Makhado, with the R578 road (South Africa) passing through it. With more than 30 000 people, Bungeni is the largest Tsonga village in Makhado local municipality. In 1994 and in 2016, administrative control of this western portion of Gazankulu has been sub-divided in half and allocated to two Municipalities, first in 1994 to Makhado Local Municipality and in 2016, to the New Malamulele Municipality in the Vhembe district. R578 Road (South Africa)
The R578 is a 100 km long Regional Route in South Africa. The construction of the large section of the road, from Elim to Giyani (84 km of the Road) was surveyed, planned and constructed by the former Gazankulu Government in 1987. Makhado
Makhado (also: Makhato or Makgato, c.1839 – 3 September 1895) was a 19th-century chief (or ''khosi'') in the Singo (or Vhasenzi) dynasty of the Venda people, Vendas. They ruled over the Dzanani "district" of the Zoutpansberg region of South Africa. He was the youngest son of ''khosi'' Ramabulana who died in 1864 when Makhado was about 25. Makhado's mother was Limani, noted for her political intrigue. Makhado's first wife was Nwaphunga. According to Venda historian M. H. Nemudzivhadi, Nwaphunga conspired with a pro-Boer faction among the Venda, and poisoned him in 1895. Accession Limani was the daughter of the ''khosi'' of Tshitavhadulu. He intended her to become the new great wife of Ramabulana's younger brother Ramavhoya, then ''khosi'', after her sister's passing. The Soutpansberg, (formerly ''Zoutpansberg'') meaning "Salt Pan Mountain" in Afrikaans, is a Mountain range, range of mountains in far northern South Africa. It is located in Vhembe District Municipality, Vhembe District, Limpopo. It is named for the Salt pan (geology), salt pan ( ve, Thavha ya muno, or "place of salt") located at its western end. The mountain range reaches the opposite extremity in the Matikwa Nature Reserve, some due east. The range as a whole had no Venda language, Venda name, as it was instead known by its sub-ranges which include Dzanani, Hanglip, Songozwi and others. South African Standard Time (SAST) is the time zone used by all of South Africa as well as Eswatini and Lesotho.
