The Federal Office of Transport (FOT, german: Bundesamt für Verkehr (BAV); french: Office fédéral des transports (OFT); it, Ufficio federale dei trasporti (UFT); rm, Uffizi federal da traffic (UFT)) is a division of the Swiss Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications. It is the supervisory authority for the fields of public and freight transport in Switzerland, covering rail transport, cableways, ships, trams and buses. The FOT is responsible for safety, finance and infrastructure, as well as the legal and political frameworks of all said transport modes. The FOT is not responsible for civil aviation, which is the responsibility of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation, nor for roads, which are the responsibility of the Federal Roads Authority. Simonetta Sommaruga
Simonetta Myriam Sommaruga (born 14 May 1960) is a Swiss politician who has served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2010. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SP/PS), she was President of the Swiss Confederation in 2015 and 2020. A former director of the Consumer Protection Foundation, which merged into the Swiss Alliance of Consumer Organisations in 2010, Sommaruga has headed the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications since 2019, previously heading the Federal Department of Justice and Police (2010–2018). She served as Vice President of Switzerland for 2014 and 2019. Sommaruga assumed the role of President of the Swiss Confederation in 2015, before returning to the position in 2020. The Federal Council (german: Bundesrat; french: Conseil fédéral; it, Consiglio federale; rm, Cussegl federal) is the executive body of the federal government of the Swiss Confederation and serves as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland. It meets in the west wing of the Federal Palace in Bern. While the entire Federal Council is responsible for leading the federal administration of Switzerland, each Councillor heads one of the seven federal executive departments. Rail transport (also known as train transport) is a means of transport that transfers passengers and goods on wheeled vehicles running on rails, which are incorporated in tracks. Ittigen
Ittigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The municipality was formed in 1983 when it and Ostermundigen were separated from territory once part of Bolligen.
