Bun Hayes
Burnalle James Hayes (August 2, 1903 – November 29, 1969), nicknamed "Bun", was an American Negro league pitcher from 1928 to 1935. A native of Louisburg, North Carolina, Hayes attended Johnson C. Smith University and North Carolina Central University. He made his Negro leagues debut in 1928 with the Baltimore Black Sox. Hayes played for Baltimore through 1930, and returned to Baltimore for two more seasons in 1933 and 1934. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum. North Carolina Central University
North Carolina Central University (NCCU or NC Central) is a public historically black university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by James E. Shepard in affiliation with the Chautauqua movement in 1909, it was supported by private funds from both Northern and Southern philanthropists. It was made part of the state system in 1923, when it first received state funding and was renamed as Durham State Normal School. It added graduate classes in arts and sciences and professional schools in law and library science in the late 1930s and 1940s. In 1969 the legislature designated this a regional university and renamed it as North Carolina Central University. Louisburg, North Carolina
Louisburg is a town in Franklin County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 3,064. It is the county seat of Franklin County. The town is located approximately 29 miles northeast of the state capital, Raleigh, and located about 31 miles south of the Virginia border. It is also the home of Louisburg College, the oldest two-year coeducational college in the United States. History Louisburg was established in the 1779 and named in honor of King Louis XVI of France, who was aiding the American Revolution at the time. Louisburg was established on land purchased for the erection of a courthouse.
