''Tugboat Annie'' is a 1933 American pre-Code film directed by Mervyn LeRoy, written by Norman Reilly Raine and Zelda Sears, and starring Marie Dressler and Wallace Beery as a comically quarrelsome middle-aged couple who operate a tugboat. Dressler and Beery were MGM's most popular screen team at that time, having recently made the bittersweet ''Min and Bill'' (1930) together, for which Dressler won the Academy Award for Best Actress. The boisterous Tugboat Annie character first appeared in a series of stories in the ''Saturday Evening Post'' written by the author Norman Reilly Raine which were supposedly based on the life of Thea Foss of Tacoma, Washington. There is also a theory that her character is loosely based on Kate A. Sutton, secretary and dispatcher for the Providence Steamboat Company during the 1920s. Vivian Bullwinkel
Lieutenant Colonel Vivian Statham, ( Bullwinkel; 18 December 1915 – 3 July 2000) was an Australian Army nurse during the Second World War. She was the sole surviving nurse of the Bangka Island Massacre, when the Japanese killed 21 of her fellow nurses on Radji Beach, Bangka Island, in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) on 16 February 1942. Early life Vivian Bullwinkel was born on 18 December 1915 in Kapunda, South Australia, to George Albert and Eva Bullwinkel (née Shegog). She had a brother, John. She trained as a nurse and midwife at Broken Hill, New South Wales, and began her nursing career in Hamilton, Victoria, before moving to the Jessie McPherson Hospital in Melbourne. Crannell, California
Crannell (formerly, Bullwinkel, Bulwinkle, Crannel, and Camp Nine) is a former settlement in Humboldt County, California. It is located southeast of Trinidad, at an elevation of . The location was formerly a company town for sawmill workers of the Little River Redwood Company, organized in 1893 by owners in Ottawa and western New York. Company headquarters were in Tonawanda. The California sawmill commenced operations in 1908. The post office opened in 1909 was named for property owner Conrad Bulwinkle. In 1922 the community was renamed for Little River Redwood Company president Levi Crannell. The town was served by the Trinidad extension of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad from 1911 to 1933. Little River Redwood Company also built the Humboldt Northern Railway to transfer company freight along the Pacific coast directly to Samoa, California. Bullwinkle (oil Platform)
Bullwinkle was a tall, pile-supported fixed steel oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico. Installed in 1988, the total weight of the platform was 77,000 tons, of which the steel jacket comprises 49,375 tones. At the time of its construction it was the third tallest freestanding structure ever builtshorter than only the CN Tower and the Ostankino Towerand the tallest in the United States, being taller than the pinnacle of the Sears Tower. Of the total height, are below the waterline. It was located in Green Canyon Block 65, approximately southwest of New Orleans. Bullwinkle belongs to Fieldwood Energy LLC. The total field development construction cost was according to some sources.
