Petar Stefanov Stojanov ( bg, Петър Стефанов Стоянов ; born 25 May 1952) is a Bulgarian politician who was President of Bulgaria from 1997 to 2002. He was elected as a candidate of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF). He did not succeed in the next presidential elections and after leaving office refrained from politics for a while, but, later became an MP in 2005 and was Chairman of UDF from 1 October 2005 to 22 May 2007. The Bulgarian Business Bloc ( bg, Български бизнес блок, Bulgarski biznes blok, BBB) was a political party in Bulgaria. History The party first participated in national elections in 1991, when it received 1.3% of the national vote in the parliamentary elections but failed to win a seat. The Bulgarian Communist Party (BCP; bg, Българска Комунистическа Партия (БКП), Balgarska komunisticheska partiya (BKP)) was the founding and ruling party of the People's Republic of Bulgaria from 1946 until 1989, when the country ceased to be a socialist state. Biography Education In the 1970s, Tomov was a student at the UNWE and Leningrad University. He completed his primary, secondary and university education with excellent marks. In 1984, Tomov earned a doctoral degree in the field of economics. Tomov has made specializations in political science and macroeconomics in Sofia and London. Academic career In addition to his political career, Tomov has also worked as a professor and lecturer in the political science department (of which he is one of the founders in 1985) at Sofia University. George Ganchev (born Georgi Petrushev) ( bg, Жорж Ганчев , born ; August 29, 1939 – August 19, 2019) was a Bulgarian politician and founder of the now-defunct political parties Bulgarian Business Bloc and George Ganchev's Bloc. Biography Petroushev was born on August 29, 1939, in Plovdiv. He studied at the Sports Academy in Bulgaria. In the early 1960s he married an Englishwoman and emigrated from Bulgaria. Some sources put the year in which he became an expatriate as 1967. He graduated from the British Academy of Fencing (where he also served as the head coach of the London Fencing Club from 1968 to 1973) and the Hollywood Theatrical Institute. Todor Kolev Kavaldzhiev ( bg, Тодор Колев Кавалджиев; 26 January 1934 – 6 February 2019) was Vice President of Bulgaria from 1997 until 2002. He was a partner to Petar Stoyanov, the 2nd President of Bulgaria. He was proven to be an anti-communist, due to being repressed during the communist era in Bulgaria. He was also an activist into restoring the BZNS Nikola Petkov. Early life Todor Kavaldzhiev was born in Glavan, Tsardom of Bulgaria in 26 January 1934. He was a pro-BZNS activist during his teens, as he vowed to restore the Agrarian Youth Wing, which failed due to his arrest and imprisonment in 1952. He was first sent to the prison in Haskovo, then he spent 11 years in Pazardzhik and Stara Zagora. He was sent to Belene labour camp twice, where harsh labour was implemented.
