Bulgaria
Bulgaria (; bg, България, Bǎlgariya), officially the Republic of Bulgaria,, ) is a country in Southeast Europe. HC Slavia Sofia ( bg, Славия София), ''Slaviya Sofiya'') is an ice hockey team from the Bulgarian Hockey League based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The team has won 19 league titles, and are a member of the Slavia Sofia sports club. History The team was founded in 1919 under the name of NFD Slavia Sofia. They competed as DSO Stroitel Sofia from 1948–1951, and six years as Udarnik Sofia, before changing their name to Slavia Sofia in 1957. The team has won nineteen Bulgarian championships, making them the most successful team in the country. They have also finished as runners-up eleven times, and won the Bulgarian Cup twelve times. Akademika Sofia
Akademika Sofia was an ice hockey team in Sofia, Bulgaria. They folded in 2008. History The club was founded in 1949 as part of the Akademik Sofia sports club and existed until 1993 when they merged with CSKA Sofia. In 1995 the club was founded again and merged with Metallurg Pernik to form ''Akademik-Metallurg Sofia'' in 1998. They became independent again as Akademik Sofia in 1999. In 2001, they took on the name of Akademika Sofia. Akademika was Bulgarian champions in 2006 and 2007, and won the Bulgarian Cup in 1955, 1998, 2006, and 2007. HC CSKA Sofia
HC CSKA Sofia is an ice hockey team from Sofia, Bulgaria that currently plays in the Bulgarian Hockey League. They are a department of the United Sports Clubs of CSKA Sofia. History Ice hockey develops in Bulgaria in the start of the 20th century, but the organized hockey becomes famous in the end of the 40s. In 1994 a tournament in honor of the 5th congress of "Bulgarian Communist Party" is held and a few teams participate in it. On 16 September in the same year, the "Republican section for skates and ice hockey" is created. At the start, the competitions are in the form of city championships, without age requirements. One of the first teams is CSKA's one. During 1952 the first republican championship is held, where CSKA doesn't reach top 3. In the next competition, CSKA becomes third and wins its first medals. Iceberg Sofia is an ice hockey team in Sofia, Bulgaria. History The club was founded in 2001. They made their first appearance in the Bulgarian Cup during the 2001-02 season, before joining the Bulgarian Hockey League for the 2002-03 season. Irbis-Skate Sofia ( bg, Спортен клуб ИРБИС-СКЕЙТ) is a Bulgarian ice hockey team based in Sofia and compete in the Bulgarian Hockey League. Irbis-Skate Sofia was founded in 2012 and joined the Bulgarian Hockey League for the 2015–16 season. The club won the 2015–16 season and the 2016 Bulgarian Cup and as a result qualified for the 2016–17 IIHF Continental Cup. History Irbis-Skate Sofia was founded in August 2012 and initially competed in small tournaments and exhibition matches against Bulgarian Hockey League teams. The club also formed minor ice hockey teams to compete in competitions before entering their under-12 team into the national championship for the 2013–14 season.
