Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange
Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange is a bus interchange serving Bukit Panjang New Town, Singapore, located within Hillion Mall. It is diagonally opposite Bukit Panjang Plaza and adjacent to Bukit Panjang station on the Downtown MRT and Bukit Panjang LRT lines. History From 16 December 2012 to 3 September 2017, all services originating from the current bus interchange had been re-routed, as it has been closed to make way for the development of the Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub (ITH). The new interchange within Hillion Mall opened on 4 September 2017 as part of the Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub. 10 services amended to the interchange while the remaining 4 services remained at the temporary bus park while waiting for the new bus terminal at Gali Batu by end-2019. SMRT Buses is a bus operator in Singapore. A subsidiary of SMRT Corporation, it traded as Trans Island Bus Services until 10 May 2004. History Trans-Island Bus Services (1983–2004) In April 1981, Communications & Labour Minister Ong Teng Cheong announced the government would grant a license to an operator that was willing to compete with Singapore Bus Service (SBS), that had operated all services in Singapore since 1973, with the aim of improving service levels. Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT Station
Bukit Panjang MRT/LRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (Singapore), Light Rail Transit (LRT) interchange station on the Downtown MRT line, Downtown line (DTL) and the Bukit Panjang LRT line (BPLRT) in Singapore. Located in the namesake estate of Bukit Panjang, the station is at the junction of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Petir Road. The station serves the commercial buildings of Bukit Panjang Plaza, Hillion Mall and Junction 10. It forms a part of the Bukit Panjang Bus Interchange, Bukit Panjang Integrated Transport Hub (BPITH), which also contains a bus interchange. Bukit Panjang New Town
Bukit Panjang is a planning area and residential town located in the West Region of Singapore. A portion of this town is situated on a low-lying elongated hill. The planning area is bounded by Bukit Batok to the west, Choa Chu Kang to the northwest, Sungei Kadut to the north, the Central Water Catchment to the east and Bukit Timah to the south. Bukit Panjang New Town is located at the northern portion of the planning area. Bukit Panjang has an average elevation of 36m/118 ft. Bukit Panjang LRT Line
The Bukit Panjang LRT line (BPLRT) is a automated guideway transit line in Bukit Panjang, Singapore. The BPLRT is the only LRT line operated by SMRT Trains. As the name suggests, it serves 13 stations in the neighbourhood of Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang. The line is the first LRT line in Singapore and was opened on 6 November 1999 by Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan. It is a fully elevated and automated people mover system. The line uses Innovia APM 100 C801 and C801A rolling stock supplied by Bombardier, running in a two-car formation. The line is infamous for its frequent breakdowns and plans have been made to overhaul the system. The Bus Contracting Model (BCM), formerly known as the Government Contracting Model, is a contracting model introduced by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in 2014 for public buses in Singapore, implemented in 2016. The BCM is based on the Transperth model in Perth, Western Australia with quality incentive elements from London Buses. Under the BCM, local and overseas bus operators bid for contracts to operate public bus services on behalf of LTA.
