Bukhtarma Dam
The Bukhtarma Hydroelectric Power Plant ( kk, Бұқтырма Су Электр Стансасы, ''Buqtyrma Sý Elektr Stansasy''; russian: Бухтарминская ГЭС, ''Buchtarminskaja GES'') is a hydroelectric power plant on the Irtysh River upstream of the town of Serebryansk, in East Kazakhstan Province of Kazakhstan. "Bukhtarma" or "Buqtyrma" is a Kazakh word that can be translated as "ambush; blocking". The plant has 9 individual turbines with a total generating capacity of 675 megawatts and generates 2.77 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. The plant is operated by Kazzinc under a long-term concession. It is integrated into Kazakhstan's national electricity system and is used as a peak producer to regulate supply. Serebryansk
Serebryansk ( kz, Серебрянск, ''Serebriansk''; russian: Серебрянск) is a town in Zyryan District in East Kazakhstan Region of eastern Kazakhstan. Population: The town is located on the right bank of the Irtysh River, downstream of the Bukhtarma Hydroelectric Power Plant. History Serebryansk was founded in 1953 as the urban-type settlement of Serebryanka. The purpose of the settlement was to host workers employed in the construction of the Bukhtarma Hydroelectric Power Plant. Previously, the village of Novo-Alexandrovka was located on the site of the settlement. On July 9, 1962 Serebryanka was granted town status within Zyryan District.
