Build A Nation
''Build a Nation'' is the eighth full-length studio album by hardcore punk pioneers Bad Brains. Released on June 26, 2007 on Megaforce Records with distribution by Oscilloscope Laboratories, it was produced by Adam Yauch of Beastie Boys, a longtime friend of the band. This album marked the 30th anniversary of the band. Along with being available on CD, the album was also released on a yellow, green, and red multi-colored vinyl record. The photography for the album was shot by Annie Leibovitz. In the album's opening week, it debuted at #100 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Background Nearly three years in production, ''Build a Nation'' is the first album of original material from Bad Brains since 1995's '' God of Love'', as ''Black Dots'' (1996) is a collection of early recordings and '' I & I Survived'' (2002) is a remix album. Bad Brains
Bad Brains are an American rock band formed in Washington, D.C. in 1976. Originally a jazz fusion band under the name Mind Power, they are widely regarded as pioneers of hardcore punk, though the band's members have objected to the use of this term to describe their music. They are also an adept reggae band, while later recordings featured elements of other genres like funk, heavy metal, hip hop, and soul. ''Rolling Stone'' magazine called them "the mother of all black hard-rock bands", and they have been cited as a seminal influence to numerous subgenres of heavy metal, including thrash/speed metal, alternative metal, funk metal and rap/nu metal. Beastie Boys
Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978. The group was composed of Mike D, Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam Yauch, Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass), and Ad-Rock, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, Programming (music), programming). Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band the Young Aborigines in 1978, with Diamond as vocalist, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry (Beastie Boys), John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. When Shatan left in 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the band changed their name to Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz. Earl Hudson (born December 17, 1957) is an American musician, best known as the drummer for Bad Brains. Born in Alabama in 1957, Hudson is the younger brother of the band's lead singer H.R. Although he has rarely recorded or performed outside of the band, he and bandmates, guitarist Dr. Know and bassist Darryl Jenifer, were recruited by rapper Lil' Jon, a longtime fan of the band, to record the song "Real Nigga Roll Call", which interpolated the music of ''I Against I ''I Against I'' is the third studio album by the American rock band Bad Brains. Shavarsh "Shavo" Odadjian ( hy, Շավարշ "Շավո" Օդաջյան; born April 22, 1974) is an Armenian-American musician, best known as the bassist of heavy metal band System of a Down. He also plays bass in a trap group called North Kingsley. During the band's hiatus from 2006 to 2010, Odadjian collaborated with Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA on a project called AcHoZeN, which contributed a number of songs to the motion picture ''Babylon A.D.'' System of a Down (also known as SoaD or simply System) is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in Glendale, California, in 1994. ''Black Dots'' is a demo album by the American rock band Bad Brains, released in 1996 by Caroline Records. It consists of one of the band's earliest recording sessions, which took place in 1979 at Inner Ear Studios with recording engineer Don Zientara. ''Black Dots'' features early versions of several songs that were later recorded for the band's first two studio albums, as well as songs that had never previously been released in any versions. ''God of Love'' is the sixth studio album by the American musical group Bad Brains. It is the band's first album since ''I Against I'', released in 1986, with its original lineup. It was released in 1995 on Maverick Records. The release contains their usual mix of hardcore punk/metal and reggae, though with more the latter than any other Bad Brains album. The heavy-rock oriented title track received video airplay on MTV. Backed by huge promotion from the label and an opening slot on the Beastie Boys' ''Ill Communication'' tour, the band fell apart as the volatile singer, H.R., was arrested several times; he was involved in beating a skinhead, a security guard, and the band's manager in separate incidents during the tour.
