Gary M. Buer (born June 8, 1946) is an American educator and former American football, football coach. He served as the head football coach at Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota in 1977 to 1978, Southwest State University—now known as Southwest Minnesota State University—in Marshall, Minnesota from 1979 to 1992, and Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Virginia from 2003 to 2006, compiling a career college football coaching record of 92–102–5. Karsten Buer (22 May 1913 – 29 November 1993) was a Norwegian harness coach. He was born in Øymark. Buer was the leading harness racer in Norway in the 1950s and 1960s. During his career he won more than 2,000 races. He became the first European Champion in harness racing, in Germany in 1969, and earned a silver medal at the 1971 European Championships.
