Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival
The Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (BAFICI, es, Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) is an international festival of independent films organized each year in the month of April, in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The festival is managed by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Buenos Aires City. It is not officially affiliated with FIAPF, but it has become well known internationally. History The festival had its first edition in April 1999 and it was organized by the Secretaryship of Culture of the Government of Buenos Aires City. The festival is held in the most important movie theatres of Buenos Aires, but also feature free open-air screenings in parks and squares all over the city. Buenos Aires ( or ; ), officially the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires ( es, link=no, Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires), is the capital and primate city of Argentina. Abderrahmane Sissako
Abderrahmane Sissako (born 13 October 1961) is a Mauritanian-born Malian film director and producer. His film '' Waiting for Happiness'' (''Heremakono'') was screened at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival official selection under Un Certain Regard, winning a FIPRESCI Prize. His 2006 film ''Bamako'' received much attention. Sissako's themes include globalisation, exile and the displacement of people. Mitra Farahani (in fa, میترا فراهانی; born 1975) is an Iranian filmmaker and painter who currently lives in Paris. Biography Mitra Farahani was born on January 27, 1975 in Tehran, Pahlavi Iran. Farahani has a degree in graphic art (1997) from Islamic Azad University in Tehran. After graduation she moved to Paris in 1998. In 1999, she lived in Hamburg briefly. Peter Strickland (director)
Peter Strickland (born 1973) is a British film director and screenwriter. He is best known for his films ''Berberian Sound Studio'' (2012), ''The Duke of Burgundy'' (2014) and ''In Fabric'' (2018). Life and career Strickland was born in 1973 to a Greek mother and British father, both teachers, and grew up in Reading, Berkshire, where he was a member of Progress Theatre, directing his own adaptation of ''The Metamorphosis'' by Franz Kafka. ''Berberian Sound Studio'' is a 2012 British psychological horror film. It is the second feature film by British director and screenwriter Peter Strickland. The film, which stars Toby Jones, is set in a 1970s Italian horror film studio. Plot British sound engineer Gilderoy (Toby Jones) arrives at the Berberian film studio in Italy to work on what he believes is a film about horses.
