Buena Vista, Michigan
Buena Vista ( ) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place within Buena Vista Charter Township, Saginaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The U.S. Census Bureau has defined a census-designated place (CDP) with the same name for statistical purposes. The CDP has no official status as a municipality and the boundaries defined by the Census Bureau may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the Buena Vista area. The CDP consists of an area adjacent to the city of Saginaw on its east side and mostly east of Interstate 75. The population was 7,845 at the 2000 census. History Buena Vista began in 1846 when Curtis Emerson bought an abandoned mill here and created a settlement around it. It was named to commemorate Zachary Taylor's then recent victory at the Battle of Buena Vista. CDPs have been used in each decennial census since 1980 as the counterparts of incorporated places, such as self-governing cities, towns, and villages, for the purposes of gathering and correlating statistical data. CDPs are populated areas that generally include one officially designated but currently unincorporated community, for which the CDP is named, plus surrounding inhabited countryside of varying dimensions and, occasionally, other, smaller unincorporated communities as well. Interstate 75 In Michigan
Interstate 75 (I-75) is a part of the Interstate Highway System that runs north–south from Miami, Florida, to Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula of the US state of Michigan. I-75 enters the state from Ohio in the south, north of Toledo, and runs generally northward through Detroit, Pontiac and Bay City, crosses the Mackinac Bridge, and ends at the Canadian border in Sault Ste. Buena Vista School District (Michigan)
Buena Vista School District was a school district headquartered in Buena Vista Charter Township, Michigan, and part of the Saginaw Intermediate School District (Saginaw ISD). As of July 2013, the school district closed and became a tax-collecting district of the Saginaw ISD to pay the district's outstanding debts. History Formation The district was formed in 1955 when the Saginaw City School District demanded that any rural schools sending students to Saginaw High School either have a joint program or join the district. A Buena Vista study committee recommended that instead the township's area school districts consolidate into a new district. In 1956, the consolidation proposal received 94% approval. While the Ricker, Leidlein, Star and Highland Park districts participated in the consolidation, the Indiantown, Service, Downes, and Harding school districts did not join the consolidated school district.
