Budel
Budel is a town in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Cranendonck, 25 km outside Eindhoven. Kempen Airport is located near Budel. History It was first mentioned in 779 as in Budilio, and means "place with houses". Budel developed in the Early Middle Ages from a collection of agrarian settlements around the Buulder Aa. In 1421, it became part of the Meierij van 's-Hertogenbosch. The Catholic Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a basilica-like church built between 1904 and 1912 with a tall tower. The Schepenhuis is located on the main market and was built in 1771. It has been used as town hall, but also as market. Between 1981 and 1982, it was restored and returned to its original shape. The grist mill Nooit Gedagt was built in 1846. The wind mill started to be used less during the 1960s. In 1967, however, it was restored and heightened. Budelse Brouwerij
The Budelse Brouwerij is a Dutch brewery in Budel, North Brabant. History The brewery was founded in 1870 as Brewery De Hoop. In the 1960s, the name of the brewery was changed to Budelse Brouwerij. Founder Gerardus Arts came from Oss, and had learned brewing at the Snieders family (later Dommelsch Brewery) in Dommelen, and at brewery De Kroon in Oirschot. In 1870 he had married Anna Maria Maas. The Maas family provided the funding for the small brewery. In 1879 the railroad Iron Rhine was finished, and a railway station was opened in Budel-Schoot. Gerard Arts opened a hotel named Brouwershuis. Meanwhile Budel expanded and a zinc smelting factory was founded. At the time De Hoop competed with the older brewery of the Rutten family, who were very influential in Budel. In 1899 a third brewery was founded by A.J. de Winkel, later led by Nelissen. Kempen Airport
Kempen Airport or Budel Airport (Dutch: Vliegveld Kempen), also just called Budel after the nearby town, is a general aviation airport in the south-east of the Netherlands located west of Weert and near the border with Belgium. Its main runway, 03/21, is a long asphalt runway. There is a second runway for microlight aircraft only, located next to the main runway, and is long. The airport opened in 1970, initially only with a grass runway. An asphalt runway was created in 1991 of , which was expanded later to its current length. Approach and runway lighting followed, making the airport suitable for IFR flights. With around 80,000 movements (a movement being a takeoff or landing) a year, it is amongst the largest general aviation airports in the Netherlands. Maarheeze
Maarheeze is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Cranendonck, about 15 km southeast of Eindhoven, near the Belgian and the German borders. History The village was first mentioned in 1223 as in Marresia. The etymology is unclear. Maarheeze is a church village which developed in the Early Middle Ages. Maarheeze was home to 220 people in 1840. The Catholic St Gertrudis Church was built between 1909 and 1910 and has two towers. In 1913, a railway station was built in Maarheeze, however it closed in 1938 and the building was demolished in 1966. A new railway station was built in 2010. In 1955, a factory was opened by Philips. Maarheeze used to be a separate municipality. It merged with Budel in 1997, and changed its name to Cranendonck. East Brabantian
East Brabantian ( nl, Oost Noord-Brabants or Oost Brabants) is one of the main divisions of the Brabantian dialect group recognized by the ''Woordenboek van de Brabantse dialecten''. East Brabantian dialects are mainly spoken in the eastern part of the province of North Brabant. Classifications of Brabantian recognize it as a separate dialect group. Sometimes it is called Meierijs, after the Bailiwick of Den Bosch. East Brabantian dialects are further subdivided into Kempenlands (in a large area east and south east of Eindhoven, including Arendonk and Lommel in Belgium), North Meierijs (in an area south of 's-Hertogenbosch into Eindhoven), Peellands (in Helmond and surroundings), Geldrops and Heeze-and-Leendes.
