Buddy Humphrey
Loyie Nawlin "Buddy" Humphrey (September 29, 1935 – April 21, 1988) was an American American football quarterback in the National Football League for the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and St. Louis Cardinals. He also was a member of the Houston Oilers in the American Football League. He played college football at Baylor University and was drafted in the second round of the 1959 NFL Draft. Early years Humphrey attended Kilgore High School in Kilgore, Texas. He played high school football at quarterback and halfback. He was a part of a dominant tandem with halfback Larry Hickman. As a junior, he was switched to fullback. In his final year, he was moved to halfback. He also lettered in baseball and basketball. 1957 Sugar Bowl
The 1957 Sugar Bowl to the featured the second-ranked 1956 Tennessee Volunteers football team, Tennessee Volunteers and the 11th-ranked 1956 Baylor Bears football team, Baylor Bears. Behind a strong defense, the Baylor Bears upset undefeated Tennessee. After a scoreless first quarter of play, Baylor scored on a 12-yard scoring pass from quarterback Bobby Jones to Jerry Marcontell to take a 6–0 lead. The score was set up by Del Shofner's 54-yard run. In the third stanza, quarterback Johnny Majors scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to put Tennessee on top at 7–6. In the fourth quarter, Buddy Humphrey's one-yard touchdown run gave Baylor a 13–6 advantage. Baylor's defense provided the difference as they didn't allow any more points. Quarterback Sneak
A quarterback sneak is a play in gridiron football in which the quarterback, upon taking the center snap, dives ahead while the offensive line surges forward. It is usually only used in very short yardage situations. The advantages of this play are that there are no further ball exchanges beyond the center snap, and that the quarterback receives the ball almost at the line of scrimmage so that it is unlikely that significant yardage could be lost on the play. It is also very unlikely that the play will gain more than one or two yards, though there are exceptions, such as Greg Landry gaining 76 yards, then an NFL record for longest rush by a quarterback, on a sneak. For this reason, it is almost solely used when the ball is very close to the goal-line or on third or fourth down with a yard or less to go to get a first down. A fullback (FB) is a position in the offensive backfield in gridiron football, and is one of the two running back positions along with the halfback. Larry Hickman
Lawrence Dean Hickman (October 9, 1935 – February 10, 2017) was a professional American football fullback in the National Football League for the Chicago Cardinals and Green Bay Packers. He played college football at Baylor University and was drafted in the third round (31st overall) of the 1959 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Early years Hickman was born in Spring Hill, on October 10, 1935, to O.B. and Mattie Jane Hickman as the youngest of four boys, with brothers John, Warner and Waller. A halfback (HB) is an offensive position in American football, whose duties involve lining up in the offensive backfield and carrying the ball on most rushing plays, i.e. a running back.
