Buddy Fowlkes
D.L. "Buddy" Fowlkes (January 18, 1928 November 30, 2021; Buddy Fowlkes) was an American track and field coach at Georgia Tech from 1965 to 1992, and a member of the Atlanta City Council from 1962 to 1993. Early life and education Douglas L. Fowlkes was born on January18, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Claude and Faith Fowlkes. He attended North Fulton High School, where he ran track. While at North Fulton in 1945, Fowlkes was a state champion in the 220-yard dash, and also competed in the 100-yard dash and the broad jump. He was the "high-point man of the meet" with a total of 11 points. At Georgia Tech, under coach Norris Dean, Fowlkes was the track and field team captain in 1949 (when Tech were the SEC outdoor track and field champions), and co-captain in 1948 and 1951. Piedmont Park
Piedmont Park is an urban park in Atlanta, Georgia, located about northeast of Downtown, between the Midtown and Virginia Highland neighborhoods. Originally the land was owned by Dr. Benjamin Walker, who used it as his out-of-town gentleman's farm and residence. He sold the land in 1887 to the Gentlemen's Driving Club (later renamed the Piedmont Driving Club), who wanted to establish an exclusive club and racing ground for horse enthusiasts. The Driving Club entered an agreement with the Piedmont Exposition Company, headed by prominent Atlantan Charles A. Collier, to use the land for fairs and expositions and later gave the park its name. Eugene Corbett Patterson (October 15, 1923 – January 12, 2013), sometimes known as Gene Patterson, was an American journalist and civil rights activist. Derrick Ralph Adkins (born July 2, 1970) is a former American track and field athlete who specialized in the 400-meter hurdles.
