Buddy's Saint
Buddy's Saint (February 23, 2007 – November 14, 2010) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Sired by Saint Liam, a Breeders' Cup Classic winner who also won the Eclipse Award as the 2005 Horse of the Year, he is out of the mare Tuzia by Blushing John. He was sold in the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale for $100,000. Racing career 2009: Two Year Old Campaign In his first race, going 6½ furlongs at Belmont Park, Buddy's Saint was first to cross the wire, but was disqualified and placed second for bumping another horse in the stretch. His next start was in the Grade 2 1 mile Nashua Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack. Buddy's Saint outdueled odds-on favorite Tobaggon Slide and ran away with a 12-length victory under a hand ride by Jose Lezcano. Saint Liam
Saint Liam (April 13, 2000 – August 22, 2006) was an American thoroughbred racehorse who was voted 2005 Eclipse Award Horse of the Year honors after winning the Donn Handicap, Stephen Foster, Woodward Stakes and Breeders' Cup Classic. He died in 2006 due to a freak accident, leaving behind a single crop of foals that included Horse of the Year Havre de Grace. Background Saint Liam was a bay stallion bred in Kentucky by Edward Evans. He was sired by Saint Ballado, a stakes-winning son of Halo. His dam was Quiet Dance, a graded-stakes placed daughter of Quiet American. Another foal of Quiet Dance, Quiet Giant, subsequently became the dam of 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner. Belmont Park
Belmont Park is a major thoroughbred horse racing facility in the northeastern United States, located in Elmont, New York, just east of the New York City limits. It was opened on May 4, 1905. Florida Derby
The Florida Derby is an American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old horses held annually at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Since 2005, it has been run five weeks before the Kentucky Derby, which is held on the first Saturday in May. Thus the Florida Derby is currently run either at the end of March or the beginning of April. Added to the racing schedule in 1952, the Grade I race is run at miles on the dirt. Eskendereya (foaled, 2007 in Kentucky) is a retired American Thoroughbred Horse racing, racehorse and current sire. Background Eskendereya was sired by Giant's Causeway (horse), Giant's Causeway, a son of North America's one time leading sire Storm Cat. Bred in Kentucky by Sanford Robertson, Eskendereya was a $250,000 Keeneland September purchase. His dam is Aldebaran Light, who is a daughter of champion Seattle Slew. Aldebaran Light is also the dam of Group I winner Balmont (horse), Balmont. Eskendereya is owned by Zayat Stables, and was trained by Todd Pletcher. The Champagne Stakes is an American Grade I Thoroughbred horse race for two-year-old horses. The race is run at a distance of one mile on the dirt at Belmont Park in October each year. Although the race is open to both colts and fillies, in practice it is New York's premier race for two-year-old colts and fillies enter the Frizette Stakes instead. The race is a Road to the Kentucky Derby Prep Season qualifying race. The winner receives 10 points toward qualifying for the Kentucky Derby.
