Budapesti Honvéd SE (men's Basketball)
Budapesti Honvéd SE is a basketball club based in Budapest, Hungary. With 33 Hungarian Championships and 17 Hungarian Cups won from the 1950s to the 1990s, it is the most successful team in the Hungarian national basketball league. The club was relegated from the 1st division in 2001, but continued as an amateur club in the 3rd division. Between 2004 and 2022 they have played in the 2nd division. History The team was founded in 1950. In their first season they finished 3rd (with equal points as the champions, MAFC, and the runner-up, Vasas). Over the following 18 seasons they won 17 championships (in 1956 they finished unbeaten as runner-up because of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956). From 1951 to 1960 they lost only one match, going unbeaten from 18 October 1954 to 6 October 1960. Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A
The Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A ( en, National Championship I/A, commonly abbreviated NB I/A) is the highest level league of club men's basketball in Hungary. Format The league comprises 14 teams. A NB I/A season is split into a league stage and a playoff/playout stage. At the end of the league stage (14 teams) the top 5 teams play another league stage, another 5 play with each other, and then the top 8 teams qualify for the playoff stage. The playoffs are played in "Best of five" format. The winning team of the final round are the champions of that season. The two bottom teams play with each other in "Best of three" format. The losing team gets relegated. Tómas Holton
Tómas Albert Tómasson Holton (born 8 July 1964) is an Icelandic former basketball player and coach. In 1983, he won the Icelandic championship and the Icelandic Cup as a member of Valur. Playing the point guard position, he led the Úrvalsdeild karla in assists in 1995 and 2000. Playing career Club career Tómas started his senior team career with Valur during the 1981-82 season and with them won the national championship and Iceland Cup in 1983. In 1989, he left the team to play for Budapesti Honvéd in the Hungary Basketball League. The following season he stayed in Hungary and signed with TFSE. He returned to Valur in 1991 for one season as a player-coach before signing with Ammerud Basket in Norway in 1992. From 1994 to 2000, he played for Skallagrímur. Kornél Dávid
Dávid Kornél (in English sometimes Kornel David, born October 22, 1971) is a Hungarian former professional basketball player. He is the only Hungarian to play in the NBA. Early life Dávid grew up with the Budapesti Honvéd juniors squad and made his debut with Budapest Honvéd during the 1987–88 season. He was signed for the 1988–89 by Malév SC and played there also the 1989–90 season. In the 1990–91 season, he went back to Budapesti Honvéd and played there until the 1993–94 championship. In 1994, Albacomp (Székesfehérvár) recruited Dávid and was his team up to the 1996–97 championship season. NBA career Dávid was signed by the Chicago Bulls on October 1, 1997 and waived on October 28. László Hódy (also known as László Hódi, Hódi László and Les Hody) (born July 10, 1934) was a Hungarian and Australian basketball player who competed for Hungary in the 1952 Summer Olympics and Australia in the Basketball at the 1964 Summer Olympics, 1964 Summer Olympics, the first person to compete at the Olympics for two countries. The 1955 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 1955, was the ninth FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship, held by FIBA. Eighteen national teams affiliated with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) entered the competition. The competition was hosted by Hungary, silver medal winners of EuroBasket 1953.
