Buckley Barracks is a British Army barracks in Wiltshire, England, about north of Chippenham and west of Swindon. History The barracks are located on the technical site of the former RAF Hullavington which closed on 31 March 1992. On handover of the site to the Army in April 1993, it became known as Hullavington Barracks. The airfield part of the site was retained by the RAF and used for gliding until September 2016, when flying ceased. The ''Buckley''-class destroyer escorts were 102 destroyer escorts launched in the United States in 1943–44. They served in World War II as convoy escorts and anti-submarine warfare ships. The Buckley Baronetcy, of Mawddwy in the County of Merioneth, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom in 1868 for Edmund Buckley, a British landowner and Conservative Party politician. He owned the Hendre Ddu Slate and Slab Company and served from 1865 to 1878 as one of the two members of parliament (MPs) for the borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme. His son, also named Edmund Buckley, became the second Baronet on his father's death. The title became extinct in 1919 on the death of the second Baronet. William Buckley Roderick (17 January 1862 – 1 February 1908) was a Welsh solicitor, international rugby union forward and later a Vice-Consular for Spain. Roderick played club rugby for Llanelli Rugby Football Club and international rugby for Wales. Business career Roderick was commissioned into the 1st Volunteer Regiment of the Welsh Regiment in 1882, and eventually rose to the rank of captain. He was awarded the Volunteer Officers' Decoration (VD) on 30 December 1902. By 1885 Roderick had commenced his practice as a solicitor in Llanelli founding Rodericks Solicitors. Roderick held many posts throughout his career, including serving on the Local Board of Health in Llanelli, becoming a coroner within Carmarthen County and he was also Registrar for Llanelli County Court. Buckley Machin (21 October 1901 – 20 June 1963) was an English-born Australian politician. He was born in Worksop in Nottinghamshire to coal miner John Machin and Martha Elizabeth Denman. He was a coal miner, and around 1926 married Florence Shaw, with whom he had one son, Peter born in Australia in 1933. He left England after the 1926 general strike and migrated to Australia around 1927, becoming a clerk and insurance agent. From 1939 he worked for Footscray City Council, first as an assistant storeman and cost clerk. From 1953 to 1955 he was the inaugural weights and measures inspector. A Labor Party member, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Council for Melbourne West Province in 1955. In 1959 he introduced the first Clean Air Bill into the state parliament.
