The Buckhounds Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Ascot over a distance of 1 mile 3 furlongs and 211 yards (), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May. The race was first run in 2005 over 11½ furlongs, increased to 12 furlongs the following year. Ascot Racecourse
Ascot Racecourse ("ascot" pronounced , often pronounced ) is a dual-purpose British racecourse, located in Ascot, Berkshire, England, which is used for thoroughbred horse racing. It hosts 13 of Britain's 36 annual Flat Group 1 horse races and three Grade 1 Jumps races. Ascot Racecourse is visited by approximately 600,000 people a year, accounting for 10% of all UK racegoers. John Gosden
John Harry Martin Gosden (born 30 March 1951) is a British racehorse trainer. He has trained over 3,000 winners worldwide, including winners of the Breeders' Cup Classic, the Derby, the Arc, the King George, the Eclipse, and over 600 winners in the United States. Gosden has trained the winners of over 100 Group 1 races in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He is generally considered one of the finest and most successful racehorse trainers of his generation. His reputation for honesty and openness has led him to be called "one of the sport's great communicators". William Buick
William Buick (born 22 July 1988) is a Norwegian-British flat jockey. He shared the champion apprentice jockey title in 2008 with David Probert and won the Lester Award for Apprentice Jockey of the Year in 2007 and 2008. From 2010 to 2014 he was stable jockey to John Gosden. In 2015 he signed with Godolphin. Buick won his first Group1 race in Canada in 2010 and since then has won Group 1 races in England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. Lanfranco Dettori (; born 15 December 1970), better known as Frankie Dettori, is an Italian horse racing jockey based in the United Kingdom. Dettori has been British flat racing Champion Jockey three times and has ridden the winners of more than 500 Group races. This includes 20 winners of the English classics. His most celebrated achievement was riding all seven winners on British Champions' Day at Ascot Racecourse in 1996. Gatewood (horse)
Gatewood is a thoroughbred racehorse. A British horse with Australian connections, Gatewood was lightly raced and had plenty of potential. Australian owners OTI realised this potential in 2012 and approached US owner George Strawbridge to purchase the horse. After initially knocking them back, Strawbridge later offered OTI the opportunity to purchase a 50 percent share and they jumped at the chance. OTI's Terry Henderson described the son of Galileo as a “progressive and beautifully bred horse” who was bought with the goal of chasing Melbourne Cup glory. After just seven career starts, Gatewood achieved victory four times and only missed out on a place on one occasion. Paul Hanagan
Paul Hanagan (born 8 September 1980 in Warrington, Cheshire) is a leading British flat horse racing jockey. Hanagan has twice been crowned champion jockey on the flat in Britain, riding 165 winners in 2011 to defend his title, having won his first title with 191 winners in 2010. Richard Hills (jockey)
Richard Hills (born 22 January 1963) is a retired flat racing jockey. He is twin brother to Michael Hills (also a jockey) and their father is former racehorse trainer Barry Hills. The twins' older brother John Hills was also a trainer. They also have two younger brothers, Charles Hills (who has succeeded their father Barry as a racehorse trainer) and George Hills who works in the Breeding and Insurance side of the industry in Kentucky, United States. David Elsworth
David Raymond Cecil Elsworth (born 1939) is a retired horse trainer living in the United Kingdom. He was the trainer of Desert Orchid, 1988 Grand National winner Rhyme 'n' Reason, and 1990 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner Barnbrook Again; three horses among a number of top-class performers for over jumps and on the flat. Hayley Turner
Hayley Turner (born 3 January 1983) is an English jockey who competes in flat racing. Originally from Nottingham, she is based in Newmarket. In 2008 Turner became the first woman to ride 100 UK flat race winners during a calendar year. She went on to win eight Group races, including two Group 1 races and a Grade 1 race. Kerrin McEvoy (born 28 October 1980) is an Australian jockey who is best known for winning three Melbourne Cups.
