A buckaroo is a cowboy of the Great Basin and California region of the United States, from an Anglicization of the Spanish word ''vaquero''. Cowboy
A cowboy is an animal herder who tends cattle on ranches in North America, traditionally on horseback, and often performs a multitude of other ranch-related tasks. The historic American cowboy of the late 19th century arose from the '' vaquero'' traditions of northern Mexico and became a figure of special significance and legend.Malone, J., p. 1. A subtype, called a wrangler, specifically tends the horses used to work cattle. In addition to ranch work, some cowboys work for or participate in rodeos. ''Nailbiter'' is a horror comic book series that was created by Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson, with art by Henderson. The series is published by Image Comics and its first issue was released on May 7, 2014. As of May 2017, the series has been collected into six volumes. The final monthly issue, number 30, was published in March 2017. Synopsis The series centers around the fictional town of Buckaroo, Oregon, which has produced sixteen of the United States' worst serial killers, dubbed the Buckaroo Butchers by urban culture. Its most recent creation is Edward Charles Warren, otherwise known as "Nailbiter" due to his predilection for chewing off his victim's nails and part of their flesh. Buckaroo (February 13, 1975 – July 30, 1996) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse, best known as the sire of Horse of the Year Spend a Buck. Buckaroo was the Leading sire in North America of 1985. Background Buckaroo was bred in Kentucky by Greentree Stud and raced for Greentree Stable as a homebred. He was sired by Buckpasser, a Hall of Fame racehorse whose immense influence on the breed came mainly as a broodmare sire. Buckaroo's dam, Stepping High, was a stakes-placed daughter of No Robbery. Racing career Buckaroo made three starts at age two, earning one win in a maiden special weight race at Belmont Park. He made ten starts at age three, recording four wins including the Grade II Saranac Stakes and Grade III Peter Pan Stakes. He was also second in the Dwyer and Whitney Handicaps. Friendship Knot
The friendship knot is a decorative knot which is used to tie neckerchieves, lanyards and in Chinese knotting. History and use This is one of the eleven basic knots of traditional Chinese knotting, a craft which began in the Tang and Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD) in China. The Chinese and Japanese names for this knot are based on the shape of the ideogram for the number ten, which is in the shape of a cross that appears on one face (and a square on the other face). ''The Ashley Book of Knots'', first published in 1944, says: "A decorative Chinese Loop. This is commonly employed as a Lanyard Knot. It is handsome and secure." In recent years, it has become popular with members of the Scout and Guide movements for tying their neckerchieves instead of using a woggle. Temco T-35 Buckaroo
The Temco T-35 Buckaroo (company designation TE-1) was designed in the late 1940s as an extremely low-cost trainer for commercial and military markets. Temco's failure to secure a United States Air Force order for the Buckaroo forced it to turn to non-U.S. governments to keep the production lines going, yet only a few export orders materialized. Design and development Early in 1948, Temco's president, Robert McCulloch, received an inquiry from the Philippine Government expressing an interest in a tandem trainer version of the Swift. The first TE-1A was a modification of the Swift GC-1B, hand-built to rough layout drawings, the major difference in appearance being the tandem seating arrangement which resulted in a narrow windshield and an elongated two-piece canopy with a fixed bubble at the rear. ''Buckaroo!'' is a game of physical skill, intended for players aged four and above. ''Buckaroo!'' is made by Milton Bradley, a division of the toy company Hasbro. Description The game centers on an articulated plastic model of a mule named "Roo" (or "Buckaroo"). The mule begins the game standing on all four feet, with a blanket on its back. Players take turns placing various items onto the mule's back without causing the mule to buck up on its front legs, throwing off all the accumulated items (the toy has a spring mechanism that is triggered by significant vibration). There are 12 different items players can stack onto the Mule. The player who triggered this buck is knocked out of the game, and play resumes. The winner is the last player remaining in the game. Vaquero
The ''vaquero'' (; pt, vaqueiro, , ) is a horse-mounted livestock herder of a tradition that has its roots in the Iberian Peninsula and extensively developed in Mexico from a methodology brought to Latin America from Spain. The vaquero became the foundation for the North American cowboy. The ''vaqueros'' of the Americas were the horsemen and cattle herders of New Spain, who first came to California with the Jesuit priest Eusebio Kino in 1687, and later with expeditions in 1769 and the Juan Bautista de Anza expedition in 1774. They were the first cowboys in the region.
