Buang FC
Buang FC, previously known for sponsorship reasons as Prima Buang FC, is a semi-professional association football club founded sometime before 2013, and based in the Mount Hagen district of Papua New Guinea. The club took part in two editions of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, with their best result coming in the 2017 season when they finished 5th. In their most recent season, the 2018 edition, they finished 7th out of seven teams. History In August 2016, it was reported that Prima Small Goods would be sponsoring Buang FC for the fourth consecutive year, indicating that the club was founded sometime before 2013. Ahead of the 2017 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, it was revealed that Buang would be making their debut in the competition. The side were due to kick off the season in May 2017 against Southern Strikers, but their opponents didn't show up. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The KPHL National Soccer League, also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of professional soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. In its 13 seasons, the competition has been won by only two clubs: Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City have won the last six. The two clubs have met in two Grand Finals, in 2015–16 and 2019, with Lae City winning both. The 2018 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League was the 12th edition of Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The league ran from 13 January to 26 May 2018. The title was won by Toti City, formerly Lae City Dwellers, who picked up their fourth title with a 3–0 victory over Besta PNG United in the Grand Final. The 2017 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League season was the 11th edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The title was won by Lae City Dwellers, who were awarded the title by virtue of their superior regular season record, after the Papua New Guinea Football Association cancelled the playoffs and the Grand Final. Teams The season was the first after the league split, which saw 11 out of the 18 regional football associations break away from the league and form their own association. Madang (old German name: ''Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen'') is the capital of Madang Province and is a town with a population of 27,420 (in 2005) on the north coast of Papua New Guinea. It was first settled by the Germans in the 19th century. History Russian biologist Nicholai Miklukho-Maklai was probably the first European to visit the area. In 1871 he stayed at Astrolabe Bay south of present-day Madang for 15 months. He had a good relationship with the local communities before leaving, suffering from malaria.
