Bryony Brind
Bryony Jane Susan St John Brind (27 May 1960 – 2 December 2015) was a British ballerina and principal dancer with the Royal Ballet. Brind was born in Plymouth, the elder child of Major Roger Brind RM, and his wife, Jennifer Grey. She started at the Royal Ballet School in 1971 at age 11, and joined the Royal Ballet itself in 1978, developing a supple body and flexibility. One year earlier, in 1977, she won a scholarship at the Prix de Lausanne. At the 1981 Laurence Olivier Awards, Brind received the ''Outstanding First Achievement of the Year in Ballet'', for her performance in The Royal Ballet's ''Dances of Albion''. In 1981, she danced the lead role in the Royal Ballet's ''Swan Lake'', and her fame increased the next year when she partnered Rudolf Nureyev at Covent Garden in ''La Bayadere: Kingdom of the Shades''. Royal Ballet
The Royal Ballet is a British internationally renowned classical ballet company, based at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London, England. The largest of the five major ballet companies in Great Britain, the Royal Ballet was founded in 1931 by Dame Ninette de Valois. It became the resident ballet company of the Royal Opera House in 1946, and has purpose-built facilities within these premises. It was granted a royal charter in 1956, becoming recognised as Britain's flagship ballet company. Kenneth MacMillan
Sir Kenneth MacMillan (11 December 192929 October 1992) was a British ballet dancer and choreographer who was artistic director of the Royal Ballet in London between 1970 and 1977, and its principal choreographer from 1977 until his death. Earlier he had served as director of ballet for the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. He was also associate director of the American Ballet Theatre from 1984 to 1989, and artistic associate of the Houston Ballet from 1989 to 1992. From a family with no background of ballet or music, MacMillan was determined from an early age to become a dancer. The director of Sadler's Wells Ballet, Ninette de Valois, accepted him as a student and then a member of her company. In the late 1940s, MacMillan built a successful career as a dancer, but, plagued by stage fright, he abandoned it while still in his twenties. The Laurence Olivier Awards, or simply the Olivier Awards, are presented annually by the Society of London Theatre to recognise excellence in professional theatre in London at an annual ceremony in the capital. David Bintley
Sir David Julian Bintley (born 17 September 1957) is an English former ballet dancer, the artistic director of the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and co-artistic director of the New National Theatre Tokyo ballet company. Early life Bintley was born in Huddersfield, England. He trained professionally in classical ballet at the Royal Ballet School in London. While training at the school, some of his choreography was seen by Sir Frederick Ashton, founder choreographer and artistic director of The Royal Ballet. Glen Tetley
Glen Tetley (February 3, 1926 – January 26, 2007) was an American ballet and modern dancer as well as a choreographer who mixed ballet and modern dance to create a new way of looking at dance, and is best known for his piece ''Pierrot Lunaire''. Biography Glenford Andrew Tetley, Jr. was born on February 3, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. While in medical school, Tetley found a passion for dance. After graduating from Franklin and Marshall College in 1946, Tetley moved to New York City to study dance. Rhapsody (Ashton)
''Rhapsody'' is a one-act ballet choreographed by Frederick Ashton to Rachmaninoff's ''Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini''. The ballet was made for both Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's 80th birthday, and Mikhail Baryshnikov's guest appearance with the Royal Ballet. It premiered on 4 August 1980, at the Royal Opera House, with the two principal roles danced by Baryshnikov and Lesley Collier. The ballet is dedicated to the Queen Mother. Choreography Ashton had stated that his inspiration was "not just from the nineteenth-century classics, but from classicism."
