Brynjar Rasmussen
Brynjar Rasmussen (born 30 June 1977 in Nordfjordeid, Sogn og Fjordane) is a Norwegian jazz musician (clarinet), brother of accordion player, photographer, social commentator, and botanist Sigve Brochmann Rasmussen (b. 1972), known from performing in bands such as Christiansand String Swing Ensemble, and for writing the commissioned work ''Arctic Mood'' for the Polar Jazz Festival in Longyearbyen (2011). Career Rasmussen was known as the clarinetist in the Dixi jazz band Christiansand String Swing Ensemble. In addition to being a performing artist, he also works as composer, and is a music producer for Nordnorsk Jazzsenter. When he went to Svalbard in 2006, the fascination for the Arctic was spontaneous. He has visited Svalbard many times since then, and eventually released his debut solo album ''Arctic Mood'' (2011), composed as a commissioned work for the most northern, Polar Jazz Festival in Longyearbyen. Nordfjordeid
Nordfjordeid is the administrative centre of the municipality of Stad in Vestland county, western Norway. It is located at the end of the Eidsfjorden, an arm off of the main Nordfjorden, west of the large lake Hornindalsvatnet. The village of Stårheim is located about to the west, the village of Mogrenda is about to the east, and the village of Lote is about to the southeast. The town is a commercial hub for the municipality and greater Nordfjord region. It includes several industries, such as timber, agriculture, electronics and commerce. It is the shopping hub for surrounding villages and towns, due to the shopping center and commerce streets. There are 5 primary schools, one lower secondary school and an upper secondary school connected to the Opera House in the town. ''Nettavisen'' is a Norwegian online newspaper, launched in 1996 as the first online-only newspaper in Norway. The current editor is Gunnar Stavrum. As of 2015 it was one of Norway's most popular news websites. PolarJazz
Polarjazz or The Polar Jazz Festival (initiated 1998 in Longyearbyen, Svalbard) is the northernmost jazz festival in the world, and is arranged every year in February. Background The 19th Polarjazz festival took place between 3 and 7 February 2016, with almost 2,500 visitors. This unique music festival that residents, visiting audience and not least the artists, keep coming back to. Over the years a multitude of the best jazz performers and other musicians have visited Polarjazz. Polarjazz not only offers a varied musical experiences, but also other activities in the polar night. Svalbard
Svalbard ( , ), also known as Spitsbergen, or Spitzbergen, is a Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. North of mainland Europe, it is about midway between the northern coast of Norway and the North Pole. The islands of the group range from 74° to 81° north latitude, and from 10° to 35° east longitude. The largest island is Spitsbergen, followed by Nordaustlandet and . The largest settlement is Longyearbyen. The islands were first used as a base by the whalers who sailed far north in the 17th and 18th centuries, after which they were abandoned. Coal mining started at the beginning of the 20th century, and several permanent communities were established. The Svalbard Treaty of 1920 recognizes Norwegian sovereignty, and the 1925 Svalbard Act made Svalbard a full part of the Kingdom of Norway.
