Progressive Conservative Party Of Manitoba
The Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba (french: Parti progressiste-conservateur du Manitoba) is a centre-right political party in Manitoba, Canada. It is currently the governing party in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, after winning a substantial majority in the 2016 election and maintaining a majority in the 2019 election. Origins and early years The origins of the party lie at the end of the nineteenth century. Party politics were weak in Manitoba for several years after it entered Canadian confederation in 1870. The system of government was essentially one of non-partisan democracy, though some leading figures such as Marc-Amable Girard were identified with the Conservatives at the federal level. The government was a balance of ethnic, religious and linguistic communities, and party affiliation was at best a secondary concern. Leanne Rowat is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. In 2003, she was elected to the Manitoba legislature as a Progressive Conservative. Prior to entering public life herself, Rowat was a constituency assistant to Progressive Conservative MLA Harold Gilleshammer Harold Gilleshammer (born April 8, 1942) is a Canadian judge and former politician in Manitoba, Canada. Portage la Prairie is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It has existed since the province's creation in 1870. Portage la Prairie is located in southern Manitoba. It is bordered to the north by Lake Manitoba, to the south by Carman, to the west by Turtle Mountain, and to the east by Lakeside and Morris. Peter George Dyck
Peter George Dyck (November 22, 1946 – January 5, 2020) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Manitoba legislature from 1995 to 2011. Before entering provincial politics, Dyck was a public school music teacher (one of his students was Loreena McKennitt). He also served on the board of directors for the Winkler Credit Union for seventeen years (as President for five), and was a member of the Garden Valley School Division board from 1978 to 1995 (as chair for ten). Dyck was also the owner and operator of a grains and special crops farm, with a cattle feedlot. Dyck was first elected in the Manitoba legislature in the provincial election of 1995, running as a candidate of the governing Progressive Conservatives in the rural, southern riding of Pembina. Pembina was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. 1878-1879 The original riding of Pembina was created in 1878, in what was then the southwestern corner of the province. It was eliminated in 1879. The riding's sole Member of the Legislative Assembly was John Stevenson, who was elected in opposition to John Norquay's government, but supported Norquay's short-lived anglophone ministry in 1879. 1958-2011 The most recent Pembina constituency was created by redistribution in 1956, and existed from the 1958 provincial election until the 2011 election. Pembina was located in the southern part of the province. Mavis Taillieu (born August 8, 1952) is a former politician in Manitoba, Canada. She was a member of the Manitoba legislature from 2003 to 2013, representing the opposition Progressive Conservative Party and served as the critic of Culture, Heritage and Tourism, Family Services and Housing, Immigration and Multiculturalism, Advanced education and Literacy, and Infrastructure and Transportation. Morris (electoral District)
Morris is a former provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1879 and named after the town and municipality of Morris, which in turn are named after Alexander Morris, who served as Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba from 1872 to 1877. Following the redistribution of Manitoba electoral districts in 2011, the riding was bordered to the south by Emerson, to the north by Lakeside, to the west by Midland and Portage la Prairie, and to the east by Steinbach, Dawson Trail, Assiniboia, Kirkfield Park and Charleswood. Ralph Eichler
Ralph Eichler (born March 23, 1950) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He is a member of Manitoba legislature for the riding of Lakeside (Manitoba riding), Lakeside. Before entering politics, Eichler served for eight years as the administrator of the Interlake School Division. He also owned and operated ''Prairie Farm Ranch Supply'', an exporter of livestock handling equipment. In the latter capacity, he oversaw the invention of a device known as "The Stockdoctor", now used internationally. Lakeside is a provincial electoral division in Manitoba, Canada. It is located to the immediate northwest of the city of Winnipeg. Traditionally a rural riding, Lakeside has become more urban in recent years (as a result of both electoral redistribution and changes in demography). All the same, agriculture accounted for 17 per cent of the riding's industry in 1999. The riding is bordered to the north by Interlake, to the west by Portage la Prairie, to the south by Morris and to the east by Gimli. It also borders the city of Winnipeg to the southeast. Interlake
Interlake was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1979, and has formally existed since the 1981 provincial election. Previously, much of the Interlake region was included in the constituency of St. George. As its name implies, Interlake was located between Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba, in the mid-northern section of the province. Interlake was bordered to the east by Lake Winnipeg, to the south by Lakeside and Gimli, to the north by Swan River, and to the west by Lake Manitoba. Gimli was a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1899, and existed continuously until the 2019 election. Gimli was located to the immediate north of the City of Winnipeg. It was bordered to the north by Interlake, to the west by Interlake and Lakeside, and to the east by Lake Winnipeg and Selkirk.
