Bill Bruton
William Havon Bruton (November 9, 1925 – December 5, 1995) was a Major League Baseball (MLB) center fielder who played for the Milwaukee Braves (1953–1960) and Detroit Tigers (1961–1964). Bruton batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Career Bill Bruton, as a 27-year-old rookie, started his major league career in 1953 with the Milwaukee Braves. The team has just moved from Boston to Milwaukee. Bruton had replaced former National League's 1950 Rookie of the Year winner and first African-American player on the Braves, Sam Jethroe, on the roster. Jethroe, at the age of 35, had been demoted to the minor leagues. He had led the NL in stolen bases his first two seasons. On April 14, 1953, his 10th-inning home run gave the Braves a 3–2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Milwaukee's first major league game. Cal Bruton
Calvin Thomas Bruton, (born 29 September 1954) is an American-born Australian former professional basketball player and coach. He has been an integral part of the National Basketball League (NBL) since its inception. Bruton won an NBL championship with the Brisbane Bullets in 1985, was a two-time member of the All-NBL First Team while playing for the Geelong Supercats and was named NBL Coach of the Year while he was a player-coach for the Supercats in 1982. He also won a second NBL championship while coaching the Perth Wildcats in 1990. As a result, Bruton became one of the first inductees into the NBL Hall of Fame when it opened in 1998. Jenna Bruton (born 8 November 1995) is an Australian rules footballer playing with in the AFL Women's (AFLW) competition. Early life Bruton grew up in Trentham and began working full-time on her family's potato farm as a teenager. She started playing football at age seven and represented Victoria as a junior, with a career in the sport gaining traction during 2013 by playing in the first women's AFL exhibition match. In 2016, Bruton chose not to nominate for the inaugural AFLW draft, citing a need to spend more time with her mother who had recently been diagnosed with brain cancer. Her passion for the game was reignited in 2017, and she was selected in the VFL Women's Team of the Year while also winning the club best and fairest award for the St Kilda Sharks. Kris Marcus Bruton (born January 10, 1971) is an American professional basketball player. Drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the second round of the 1994 NBA Draft, he was with the Bulls for two pre-seasons (1994 and 1995) before a serious thigh injury ended his career. Bruton never appeared in a regular-season NBA game for the Bulls. After recuperating, he was recruited by the Harlem Globetrotters, carving a niche on the court as a slam dunk expert. Niall Bruton (born 27 October 1971) is a former Irish runner who specialized in the 1500 metres, retiring around 2000. From Dublin Niall went to Larkhill National School and then St. Aidan's C.B.S. in Whitehall, he ran with Clonliffe Harriers. Bruton ran collegiately in the US for the University of Arkansas where he won the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 1993 and 1994. Ogden Carr Bruton (born 14 June 1908 in Mount Gilead, North Carolina; died 20 January 2003) was a pediatrician and chief of pediatrics at Walter Reed Army Hospital, where he organized the first pediatric residency at this hospital. Paul Wesley Bruton (August 1, 1903 – July 16, 1988) was the Ferdinand Wakeman Hubbell Professor of Law and the Algernon Sydney Biddle Professor of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Emma Quintilla Geer Bruton (1907-1989) was a philanthropist and library advocate, the namesake for the Bruton Memorial Library in Plant City, Florida. Early life Geer was born in Walton, Kentucky and moved to Florida in 1923. She graduated from Plant City High School as valedictorian in 1926 and attended Tampa Business College and Brewster Vocational School. She married James Bruton Jr. in Tampa, Florida in 1932, he worked as a county judge. The two of them purchased 50 acres of land northwest of Plant City, Florida and named it Audubon Acres and created a bird and wildlife sanctuary.
