Bruce Palmer (basketball)
Bruce Palmer (born November 12, 1955) is an American professional basketball coach who coached primarily in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL). Palmer began coaching in the NBL in 1987 with the North Melbourne Giants, after coaching the Dandenong Rangers in the VBA. In 1988 he was awarded NBL Coach of the Year though the Giants would lose the NBL Grand Final series to the Canberra Cannons. The following year, the Giants won the championship over the Cannons. Palmer moved to the Brisbane Bullets in 1993, although he was unsuccessful in bringing the team the level of success he saw with the Giants. He left the team after three seasons and took a break from coaching in the NBL, during which he coached representative youth basketball. In 1998 he worked as an assistant coach with the Brisbane Bullets under head coach Brian Kerle. Canberra Cannons
The Canberra Cannons are a defunct basketball team that competed in Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). They went into financial administration in 2003 and were relocated to Newcastle, where they became the Hunter Pirates. After this venture also folded the team was relocated to Singapore and played as the Singapore Slingers for the 2006/07 season. The Cannons have always been considered as the team of the 1980s. They were runner-up in the inaugural 1979 competition. The Cannons won three championships (1983, 1984 and 1988) and was runner-up once more in 1989, losing to the North Melbourne Giants. Utsunomiya Brex is a Japanese professional basketball team based in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. After winning the JBL 2 in 2008, the team played in the National Basketball League. In July 2015 it was announced that the team would compete in the first division of the new Japan Professional Basketball League (B.League), which started in October 2016. The Australian Basketball Association (ABA) was a semi-professional basketball entity based in Australia. The ABA was Australia's biggest basketball competition for many years. With over 120 teams participating across five leagues and six states, the ABA competition was the vital link between grass roots basketball in Australia and the elite NBL and WNBL leagues. The association provided a high standard of competition for local basketballers from across the country as well as an intense environment for professionals to use in their off seasons. Between 1965 and 2008, the ABA played an integral part in the development of Australian basketball with hundreds of former and active NBL and WNBL players honing their skills against world-class opposition. Brian Kerle
Brian Edward Kerle (born 29 August 1945) is an Australian former basketball player and coach. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1972 Summer Olympics. As a coach, he led the St. Kilda Pumas and the Brisbane Bullets to two championships each in the National Basketball League (NBL). In 2006, Kerle was inducted into the NBL Hall of Fame (now part of the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame). Playing career Club career A relatively late starter to basketball, Kerle began playing with Oxley in the lower levels of Brisbane basketball in 1965. He later moved to Lang Park in the A grade.
